The Brothers Reed bring people together. They sure have for us. We've grown to be true friends with the boys, and by extension, we've met even more true friends through their music.

When Aaron just decided to run headfirst through a brain tumor diagnosis with a warrior spirit, and a focus on the bigger picture of life, it didn't surprise us. What an absolute gangster. We had the opportunity to take in his first solo show post-surgery, and I'm just thankful. Thankful that he's going to crush this, thankful for perspective, for friends, for life, and for good music.

Many moving moments tonight, and he played the song I danced with @jamison.drea to at her wedding.

Life is good. Love your people.

This piece of art holds so much meaning... One of my students who struggles to persevere when his work doesn't turn out the way he'd like created this today. He excitedly told me how much he loves it, because "It was GOING to be a circle, but it started to turn in... Then I just went with it!" I told him how exciting it was to see him turn what might have been discouraging into something new and maybe even better. He said he just remembered the book I read them last year about mistakes, and "I knew it would be great!" OH MY HEART!! Some days there are little things that help you see you're making a difference. <3 #thebookofmistakes #readinginart #dotday #tabclassroom #mrspretzelsstudio

Paper beads. Such a "simple" project that is just making my heart happy...
1. One of my high schoolers measures their creative bead making success in hand cramps. 😂
2. Some of my students truly learned the value of perseverance and practice as they improved with each bead.
3. Everyone agrees that the more you make the cooler they all look in your little tub 'o' beads.
4. Sometimes what you feel is a mistake ends up looking really cool in the end. Maybe even better than you imagined.
5. Planning and meticulous rolling created an experiment in color theory! (The first photo.) Unprompted by me. One of my students started with a rainbow, planning and coloring a more complicated roll so that it would end up looking like a rainbow. Then progressed to making one with primary colors. Then decided to top the set off with a secondary color bead. This one little bucket shows discipline and attention to EVERY directive I gave my classes. Make at least two beads from strips of straight paper so you get the hang of rolling. THEN move onto pointed strips or complicated shapes. Think about how your coloring and patterns will look when you roll them. Set a goal of making at least five beads. Get creative! Do your best. Keep trying even when it seems hard.
6. Not shown: kinders used paper straws to color and cut into beads.
7. Now to assemble!! *This project has been a bit more directed than I usually do in class, because I wanted to add some skills to my students tool belts when we get back into more free choice.

I took the class pets home for Christmas break... And added two new beta to the collection so more tables can have the fish on their tables when we draw and paint them. The cats are PREEEEETTY interested. 😂 #ihopetheymakeit #mrspretzelsstudio

Getting the start of the year bulletin board off to a strong start! We are reading #theartteacherisweird written and illustrated by #geoffschmidt. We read the story without looking at the book, and the kids are drawing pictures based on their imagination of his description. I'll be putting their versions of the art teacher on the board over the next couple weeks. Pretty proud of my bulletin. Freehand and water colors based off the book cover! #sharpieandwatercolor #mrspretzelsstudio #dayscreekcharterschool
