Flagstaff Diaries Entry 1️⃣7️⃣: @gotrna & @girlsontheruninternational 💖 Today marks 2 years since my last drink. 🤩 And y'all... Girls on the Run is a much bigger part of that story than they probably realize. 💜 Funny enough, my last drink happened at the Girls on the Run Summit in Las Vegas in 2024. Now... Vegas was fun, but definitely not my scene. 😂 The dancing? AMAZING. The women? Incredible. The summit? Pure magic. 🥹 Also... if you've been following these Flagstaff Diaries, yes, there is another photo of me taking a giant bite out of food. I guess that's just my brand now. 😂🍽 Somewhere in the middle of all that, surrounded by hundreds of women who dedicate their lives to helping girls believe in themselves, I remember thinking: "If they believe girls can change their lives... why can't I?" So I made a decision. I finished my drink. And I never had another one. 💜 Over the last three years, Girls on the Run has given me so much more than I ever expected. I've served on the board, helped recruit coaches for our Indigenous girls, volunteered at two Camp Verde 5Ks, graduated from Happy Hair Station to emceeing two Flagstaff 5Ks 😂, and made friendships I'll carry with me long after I leave Flagstaff. Kathleen, Josi, and my entire GOTR family... thank you. 🫶🏽 Thank you for the glitter. The dance parties. The laughter. The hugs. The finish lines. The friendships. And for reminding me that doing hard things is always a little easier when you've got amazing people beside you. 🥳 Girls on the Run teaches girls they are brave. They are capable. They are enough. Funny how those lessons have a way of finding the adults, too. 🥹 Happy 2 years to this sober little Yaqui. And thank you to the version of me who decided, in the middle of a dance floor in Vegas, that it was time to choose herself. 💛 Chiokoe Uttesia and God bless y'all! 💖 #sobriety #community #girlsontherun #blessed #godbless

Y'aaaall.... Aint no party like a @girlsontheruninternational party cause a GOTR party don't stop! 🤪 Gushed about this last week but here are some deets from it. 🤸🏽‍♀️ I subbed in for Dr. @alisse.alijoseph to speak on @kellyteese efforts and collaboration to conduct outreach in indigenous communities for @gotrna . 🤸🏽‍♀️ Honored for this opportunity to share this knowledge and wisdom on not only what it entails to collaborate with Indigenous communities but also present this work as a blueprint for serving marginalized communities. How can we make ALL girls feel safe and seen when they join GOTR? My inner-child gave me a huge hug, happy I agreed to saying yes to attending this summit. Lil' Mariah knew I was out there advocating for ALL lil' Mariah's that walked into a room feeling afraid, uncomfortable, and unwelcomed. ❤️ We aren't asking folks to CATER their events, their approaches, their curriculum, to one group - all we're asking is we acknowledge there's more than one voice in the room. A really wonderful person, Diana White, shared with me some sage wisdom that I went and shared at the end of our presentation. "When a deer goes out to graze but they're alone, what do you notice?" "You see they're hyper aware of their surroundings, they're careful, and. . . they're looking around for other deer." "Why? Because they're prey. Being alone out in the open, no other deer around. . . it means it's not safe." Marginalized communities, Indigenous communities. Coming from long lines of generational trauma, poverty, struggle, we have been "prey" for so long. So when we walk into a room, yeah, we look to see if there's anyone like us, we look to see if we're safe. It was a beautiful thing to be in a room full of people that, shoot a whole SUMMIT full of people that: 1️⃣ Heard Us 2️⃣ Asked Us questions on what they can do 3️⃣ Recognized our efforts This summit really filled my cup. I learned so, made new friends, super star dance party with some amazing folks at the top of the Strat ✨️ I'm INSPIRED and blessed! 🤩 Thank you, God and God Bless y'all! 💛 #Indigenous #community #advocacy #empowerment #nonprofit #girlsontherun #blessed #godbless
