Known for its beautiful architecture and striking traditional Shinto design is Kyoto’s Yasaka Shrine. The Honden is the main hall and most well known structure in the shrine. The original name of the Yakasa Shrine is Gion-sha when it used to be a Buddhist temple before the Meiji restoration, which ended feudal rule in Japan.

SJMC Japan students were guided through the Yasaka Shrine exploring each fascinating piece of structure through the Haiden (hall of worship) and Maidon (the dance hall).
