When The Verve lost 100% of their "Bitter Sweet Symphony" royalties over a sampling dispute, Here's what Keith Richards had to say. He and Mick Jagger held the songwriting credits for over two decades before finally returning them to Richard Ashcroft in 2019.

Richard Ashcroft proves MUSIC IS POWER 👑

Whether he’s taking over Victoria Park for Neighbourhood Weekender or dominating Glasgow Green at TRNSMT, the former Verve frontman has been putting on an absolute masterclass in live rock and roll this summer.

He hasn't just been playing the hits; he's been showing exactly why these anthems still mean so much to massive festival crowds today. From bringing his signature swagger to the North West, to arguably stealing the entire weekend in Scotland with that brilliant moment dedicating "Space and Time" to football legends Jock Stein, Sir Matt Busby, and Bill Shankly, Ashcroft remains one of the greatest frontmen this country has ever produced.

A massive shoutout to photographers Ben Whitehurst (WeShootMusic) and Adam Hampton-Matthews for capturing this up-close look look at Richard right in his element from the photo pit. 📸

We’re closing out the year with the big one - the team have gotten together to pick out The Soundboard’s top 30 albums of 2025.

Link in bio for the full thing!

Finally, it’s editor Luke here, to wrap things up by the spotlighting the amazing work that our team has done. I’ve said it before but it continues to be true—this is the best team that any site could ask for, and I’m so lucky to have every single one of them putting in the work that they do.

As always, @iamdisappearedd has been an amazing second-in-command, always there for advice and to run ideas by. @unquiet_slumbers and @e1burr, like every year, have been putting in so much brilliant work on the writing side of things. We also had @zenamorris_ and @theellchronicles join the writing team this year, and they’ve both been absolutely smashing it as well. The work and the effort put in by every single one of them is second to none, and I couldn’t be more thankful for that.

As for photography, 2025 has been, without question, our most productive year, thanks to the amazing team we’ve got who never stop impressing me with how much they deliver. @_forphotography, @eyes_widephotography and @maryleenphoto (who also made us the lovely graphics for this post) have continued to be just incredible; @whitehurst_ben and @badideasbears started properly with us this year and have delivered time and time again, without fail; and @memoirsofamancunian deserves his own mention for absolutely smashing Y Not Festival on his own this year while still being fairly new to the whole gig-shooting game. @james_taking_pictures also deserves a mention for stepping in at Arctangent for us, and getting some absolutely phenomenal shots.

Finally, I want to shout out everyone else who’s been involved this year—our friends at other sites and pubs, writers, photographers, bands, labels, PRs, and anyone who’s read what we’ve got to say or interacted in any way. Even if it’s just to have a go at us and say we’ve got no idea what we’re talking about, we couldn’t appreciate you more.

We’re taking a little break now, but we’ll be back very soon for 2026 - see you all then!
