One of the best nights of my life: @taylorswift Eras Tour Nights 3.

As @whitneyebryan put her hand on my shoulder as I was sobbing at one point, I realized I never felt so safe among some tens of thousands of people - the venue was filled with so much love. Enjoy the photo dump with a surprise from the vault at the end.

I used to live in contradiction. I feared people never knowing me but i also feared people getting to know the real me. It’s why I was a storyteller. But there was always vanity in my vulnerability - something I hid from everyone, even myself. Until this past year…

I opened up more than ever before. At first?I did it out of fear; for survival. and then I kept doing it because a surprising thing happened - the world opened up to me and filled my heart.

Last night, I celebrated the people around me and shared the power of gratitude. I was blessed to bring the love of the amazing @cassandrajenkins to the stage to share with my people - which included Bucky @thewinterdoodle singing a new verse in Michelangelo. I have loved her music since I first heard it but I love her spirit and energy even more.

I was also happy to share a voice that blew me away when i first heard it - as it did everyone in attendance last night- with a performance by @nyc.kcr. She’s one of the hardest working people in music that I have met and I know great things are ahead of her.

But beyond entertainment, I am still trying to find the words that capture the night that brought friends from elementary school, college and mixed them with people that didn’t know “the other me.” It was beautiful.

Gender isn’t a binary and neither is love. I loved all the people there in such unique ways - and they love me in different unique ways - that I don’t think I can ever say I don’t feel loved.

Thank You to all who came and for those that couldn’t make it - i felt you there in spirit.

The internet makes the moments in our lives very tangible. Each post we share immortalizes our past - moments frozen in the amber of our feeds…

The past is funny in its contradictions. It’s an anchor. It can also set you free. It’s flawed because so many people rewrite it. Yet, we all share the same past. Your past experiences set your benchmarks yet they can also create expectations insurmountable. It’s poetic in its chaos; after all, How could a year so filled with loss bring such feral joy?

It’s a beautiful thing to contemplate.

As for the future? I have “Je sais l’avenir par coeur” tattooed on my arm but the one thing I learned this year is that fact is definitely not true. You never know what is going to happen in the future…And that’s okay. Give yourself into that uncertainty. Why? Because the universe will show you the path. The path isn’t direct. It’s not always smooth. But it does listen to you if you listen to it. That may seem hokey, but that seems to be the lesson of 2022…

This year could have been one of the worst. My old self died, which led to me spending some time in the liminal space that is a psych ward, and afterward, lost and without a name, I regrouped, recovered and eventually emerged the woman that you see before you.

There’s a feral joy I finally feel in being myself. I’m thankful for all those that have helped me find myself, even those no longer in my life, whom I still love unconditionally. I am thankful for my puppy Bucky - my best friend. I am thankful for my friends - especially those that joined me here - and the healing power of community. I am thankful for work - who have accepted and supported me without question. I am thankful for all the messages of support, whether it be emotionally or just telling me my thirst traps slay - I appreciate and love every interaction.

But mostly, I’m thankful that I have been able to spend the year falling in love with Emily. Finally loving yourself is the most liberating feeling one could ever achieve. and while i still have a lot to work on, just the taste of self-love that I’ve had this year will guide me on my journeys from this point forward.
