This beautiful woman is my mother, the inspiration for my novel #deeperthantheocean #lamemoriadelasolas and the force behind everything I have accomplished in my life. It is the story of her life and that of her mother that I tried to honor in my novel. Today, she would have been 87. Missing you Mima. #birthdaysinheaven #missingmom

This was recorded back in 2024. I kept revisiting the lyrics and being like damn I feel the same way after all this time. So instead of hoarding unreleased music I decided to put it out. Maybe some people will resonate. Thanks for your time and attention, have a blessed day. #norelation

Sometimes the odds are in your favor and you end up sitting next to your favorite Spanish writer in a Madrid book store promoting the book you were meant to write. Sometimes, you may even have a multiple course four-hour unforgettable dinner with said writer and friends and call it one of the best nights of your life. The odds were in my favor a month ago. It's taking me that long to digest, process and post. Thank you @maria.duenas.oficial , for the support, the generosity, and the laughs. And thank you to my agent @jcastillobooks for making it all possible. To my friend Carmen Lamas for showing up, and to my editor @ipplanells , for #Lamemoriadelasolas, the beautiful translation of my first novel #DeeperthantheOcean. And thank you to everyone that joined us in a very very warm Madrid night at @librerialamistral , surely one of the most beautiful book stores in the world. Sometimes, you do something scary -like publishing a novel in your third act-and it pays off!

It’s been almost two weeks since I returned from a magical trip to Spain to visit family and promote my novel #lamemoriadelasolas a translation of #deeperthantheocean. There were many wonderful moments. Without doubt, one of them was a short -too short-visit to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, where, it turns out, my great grandfather, Antonio Quintana, was born circa 1848. I’m piecing his story together little by little, much like the character of Mara Denis does in my novel. Once again, life imitates art. In another wonderful twist, I stayed in an old and grand hotel called Santa Catalina. Catalina Quintana is one of the two protagonists of my novel. Of course I had to stay there!! In Las Palmas, I saw my book in stores and even signed some copies -surely a dream come true, and I met @anaencanarias who was as warm and intelligent in person as she comes across in her social media. Did I feel a connection to my ancestors? Yes! Will I be back? No doubt. #debutnovel #historicalfiction #familyhistory

This is Santander, Spain, my favorite city in the world. Because of that, I made it the home of Mara Denis, on of the two protagonists in my novel #deeperthantheocean now translated to Spanish as #lamemoriadelasolas. This is Mara’s world in the book -the sea she feared and loved-the book store she visited, the view from her apartment, the buildings and sights she treasured. I’ve come back to see my book in the book store of my life here. Like Mara, I had my routines. Unlike Mara, I had three boys who made Santander home for many years. Now I see them everywhere, and I feel the passage of time, and the joys of having #unlugarenelmundo #aplaceintheworld. This is mine. This was Mara’s. #historicalnovel

When I wrote #FindingMañana more than 20 years ago, my dream was to publish in Spain where I thought there would be great interest in the story of the #Marielboatlift To my surprise and disappointment, that didn’t happen. And now this, 21 years later, my novel #deeperthantheocean was translated as #Lamemoriadelasolas and will be released in Spain next week. I’m beyond thrilled. My mom would have been so happy! The novel will also be published in Colombia (6/22), Chile (7/1), Mexico (7/18), the USA (8/25), and Peru (9/1). #historicalfiction

My nephew @drummerboy2454 got married Saturday in a lovely wedding. My sister @mabo1968 was glowing, and a good time was had by all at a distillery in Wisconsin. What a weekend! My heart is full. Any trip with my boys @whokilledarbor and @marcelo_vo is an adventure, even better if we are with #family #motherofboys #travelingsisters #junebride
