“My ode to her.”

Yes, I thought about you today.
Everything is always reminding me of you.
But not just because it’s Valentine’s Day.
I saw couples that look like us but I wasn’t sad.
I was happy for them.
I thought it was sweet.
It made me smile.
In my imagination, I replaced them with us.
I was reminded of times we spent holding hands and tripping over each other’s feet.
Laughing hysterically at jokes that no one else gets but us.
Swimming together at beaches.
A picnic by the lake with cookies and fruit and pasta and wine glasses.
Reading books together in the library and kicking each other under the table.
And all of the things we never got to do.
I was reminded of how I hurt you.
But not just because it’s Valentine’s Day.
I think about those things everyday.

Xoxo happy Valentine’s Day…
