Affordable Housing 101:
@ed_poteat (Edward Poteat) can explain how affordable housing actually gets built — you subsidize the building, or you put vouchers in tenants’ hands — and he can point to his own Marcus Garvey Village in Harlem, where the city covered nearly 60% of the cost to keep 165 apartments truly affordable.

What’s harder to explain is why so few developers do this work. Twenty-plus years in, his answer is the honest one: the early years were all about heart.

Edward Poteat (@ed_poteat) grew up in Mitchell-Lama housing in 1980s New York — a city where the murder rate was nine times what it is today. That’s where his empathy for low-income families comes from, and where his fascination with the dichotomy of politics and policy begins: politics runs on 15-second messaging, while real housing policy is complicated, financial, and slow.

Our new episode — The Past, Present, and Future of Affordable Housing — sits right in that tension.

Nilda Callañaupa Álvarez’s story stretches from Cusco to the Met.

Last summer, she was invited to consult at The Metropolitan Museum of Art on its collection of ancient Andean textiles. [https://www.metmuseum.org/perspectives/weaving-together-generations]

In our newest Good Standing episode, Nilda and artist Robin Kang ( @spiderwoman1s0s ) join Kurt for a conversation about weaving across time — and how Robin has found her place as a bridge between the traditional and the modern.

Robin is in Peru now, bringing back textiles hand-woven by the Young Weavers, wearable as a hat band, hair band, or belt, with pompoms or without. 85% of every purchase goes directly to the Centro de Textiles Tradicionales del Cusco.

Introducing First Ventures.

A venture studio for kids, teens, and young adults — where young builders learn to make ventures that are good for the world. Through small cohorts and one-on-one apprenticeships, we help our participants discover what they are really passionate about, and we coach them along the way, tailored specifically to their project. We help them develop important skills like entrepreneurship, civic engagement, and how to turn an idea into reality.

Three tracks meet builders where they are:

— Prototype: turn an idea into something in the real world (6 weeks, small cohort starting this summer)
— Builder: take an existing project further (3–6 months, 1:1 advisory)
— Venture Build: launch an organization built to last (9–12 months)

Built by the founders of @radiical.systems • Powered by @goodstandingofficial • Hosted at our studio in NYC

First cohort begins July 8, 2026. Limited spots. Scholarships available.

12 spots. Applications close May 5.

The Good Standing Pioneer Ambassador Cohort is open — and we’re looking for the people who already see what’s broken — and are ready to build what’s next, together.

Who is this for? You’re a community organizer, a freelancer, a recently laid-off individual, a new college grad looking for work, a startup builder, an influencer, an artist, a small-business owner, an events producer, or more likely, some combination of the above. You see the cracks in today’s systems, and you’re already building around them.

Ambassadors design and run campaigns that bring brands, organizations, artists, and volunteers together — generating real impact and real revenue. You earn commission on every activation. You share in the platform’s growth from the start. Every campaign becomes part of your permanent, verifiable civic record.

Founding benefits never expire. This cohort is the only one that gets them.

Comment “AMBASSADOR” below and we’ll DM you the link to our full program breakdown — commission structure, founding benefits, timeline, and how to apply.
