The Cove Park/Varuna International Writers’ Exchange offers four-week funded residencies for writers and former residents of @cove_park and @nationalwritershouse Varuna, the National Writers’ House of Australia. The programme has been altered slightly to take place over two years, with recipients travelling in alternating years. The 2026 recipient is Anne-Marie Te Whiu. Anne-Marie is currently at Cove Park, after appearing at Wigtown Book Festival as part of her residency programme. During her stay at Cove Park, she plans to work on her verse novel Paper Thin. Fun times...
Great times...
But also some sad times ahead.... if you object to the data centres and you want to be heard, you need to take action. And quickly! As closing dates are short and nearly here!

Let's do more research, environmental planning around these structures before decisions are made that affect the environment, power, wildlife and people.

✨ A night to remember!

Last week, I attended the Thistle Awards with the Dumfries & Galloway Carnival team, where we were shortlisted for two awards and took home a win for Burns Light! 🤍

As an Associate Producer, it’s a genuine honour to be part of such a fantastic team. At this stage in my career, I’m constantly pushing myself, taking on new challenges and doing things I never imagined I would. It’s a demanding role, but having such a supportive team around me makes all the difference.

A huge thank you to the Carnival team, our amazing volunteers and everyone involved in bringing these events to life. I’m incredibly proud to play a small part in it all✨

Congratulations to all the finalists and winners. It was a special evening celebrating the brilliant work happening across our industry! 🤍

Wigtown Book festival holds a special place in my heart. This was my twelfth year and it didn’t disappoint. There’s a magic about this town that can’t quite be captured in words. It’s more than books, more than the events themselves although as always the authors were fantastic. It’s what it symbolises— friendship, safety, and a sense of belonging. Thanks @bldundas for another memorable weekend. @wigtownbookfest I never grow tired of visiting and always discover a new author to love. Shoutout to @lr_lam and @elizabethmaywrites — I’ve been saying for years we needed a wee dash of spice at Wigtown! Massive thanks and love to @oldbankbooks for championing my books, it means so much to pop in and find my titles on your shelves. Love a wee impromptu book signing.
I loved seeing Frances Crawford and Sam Heughan, and my foodie highlight was a return to The Pheasant, although the pizza truck was also a fantastic addition.
Well done Wigtown, see you next year!

Wigtown Day 3

Frances Crawford- A Bad, Bad Place.

I don’t read a lot of crime novels, but I did go to Bloody Scotland this year for various reasons. Frances was the author I kept hearing about, and I was certainly pleasantly surprised when I realised I had tickets to see her in Wigtown.
Such an inspirational person. I’m reading the book already.

Sam Heughan- Cocktails Dairies, etc

A bit about me- I started reading Outlander when I was 16 years old in 1993. I have grown up with the characters, and they are one of the reasons I came to Scotland for university and found my own Scotsman. So to meet the ‘real’ Jamie was a dream come true.

Have you been to Wigtown Book Festival? 📚

If not, you don't know what you're missing!

Wigtown is Scotland's national book town, lots of indy book shops, cafés and a great pub.

All in magical Galloway. 🪄

If you comment Festival I'll send you the link to my Letter from Scotland on Substack, and my shopping edit - what the Literati wear to a book festival.

I'm Kathleen Hart, published author. I write in a cottage by the sea. Do follow along.

Thank you to Anna for asking the question we were all hoping for!

Seeing Sam on stage in Stratford-upon-Avon was a dream come true, and although The Other Place was a special, intimate venue, if they manage to stage "Macbeth" elsewhere, it’s sure to be a very special venue too – hopefully we’ll get to enjoy Sam on stage again…

When you’re a fan of a singer, you want to see them sing live; when you’re a fan of an actor, you want to see them perform live on stage too.

Hopefully, in "Macbeth" or any other play, we’ll be able to see him on stage again, doing what he loves most (and what I love most is watching him).

We always feel deflated after a wonderful time at @wigtownbookfest with authors, chairs, readers, musicians artists and visitors from all over the world. But the hardest thing is saying goodbye to these beautiful souls - our kindred spirits - who we met at @theopenbookwigtown @openbookwigtown in the early days and who have become our dearest friends. @powellkf42 cross the pond every year and give so much to our festival and town. Our bookshop-home and Wigtown is just not the same without them and @helenawcochrane @helenas_astro . But what wonderful memories. Until the next time lovely people #wigtownbookfestival #theopenbookwigtown #bookfestivalvolunteers #volunteers #friendsforlife❤️ 🙏🏻❤️📚
