Ok where to even BEGIN. I am still processing this trip out west. Posting on IG is very arduous but I’ll try to break this down. Also ten photos doesn’t even give this experience with @charcoalbookclub justice, or give proper scale to the incredibly massive and overwhelming landscapes in Paradise Valley.

I’m so happy my first time in Montana was with an incredible group of 63 other talented photographers, and a group of dedicated, passionate reviewers. It was refreshing to be around people at all hours of the day who spoke the same language and just got it. People who don’t get mad at you for asking to pull over because you saw some bizarre shit on the side of the road you need to photograph for an hour (shout out @stickygreene @iseeyouiloveyou & Dani Zorzy).

This portfolio review was incredibly motivating and reassuring, and left me a different photographer than the one I walked in as. It was also a really emotionally vulnerable time for many to be so open about very personal works. I think we all underestimated the emotional high and subsequent crash in the days after we left.

A couple quick shoutouts to the conversations and advice that has undoubtedly left lasting impacts on myself and my work: @thechrismccall for giving me the space to be super vulnerable, @bryanschutmaat for combining the art of encouraging / supportive / authentic & blunt feedback all in one, @pradipmalde for your kind, emotional read on my subject matter, and @paulmoakley for your motivation and excitement about the work.

Lastly, thank you @caigrace for encouraging me to apply to this program and seeing the value and potential in my work.

It’s really magical and bittersweet to be in a remote place with like minded individuals you likely won’t see all in one place again. But that’s also the beauty of it.

TLDR: Chico Portfolio Review was great. I highly recommend it to any photographer. Mountains were very tall and there are bears.

I hope you all are having a great photo nerd time at Pray, Montana now (not too drunk), and enjoy the poetry writing time with Brad and the clock ticking under the safe light with Sergio! I miss you all! Hopefully we will see each other soon! @charcoalbookclub @jesselenz @wiiildkat
