“It was extremely important to come to the island…and give Puerto Ricans on the island themselves the opportunity to tell their story.” – Juno Maldonado (WikiLatinos / Wikiproyecto Puerto Rico) 🇵🇷

That’s what Wikicurious is about. In August, we spent two days in San Juan with Boricuas learning to edit Wikipedia and photographing Santurce for Wikimedia Commons. Watch the recap to see why it mattered to the people in the room. 🎥

Wikicurious: Arte y Cultura was a collaboration between @wikimedianyc @museomapr WikiLatinos/@wikipuertorico @wikiportraits and the Wikimedia North America Hub, with support from @craignewmark Philanthropies.

Millions of people read @wikipedia every day. This year, Wikicurious helped hundreds more go deeper, and learn how to edit it. ✍️ Each event was built around a theme the local community cared about, from art and music to local history, so people added what they knew to what Wikipedia was missing. We’re catching up to share our programs from the first half of 2026. 🌎

Swipe to see where we’ve been! ➡️

This work would not be possible without the support of @craignewmark Philanthropies.

In January, we celebrated Wikipedia at the Sundance Film Festival. 🎬 About 150 film lovers and Wikipedians stopped by Wikicurious x Wikihaus for free portraits by @WikiPortraits, printed Wiki Receipts of their favorite Wikipedia articles, a lesson on how films and filmmakers get Wikipedia pages, and a few rounds of WikiAsteroids. 👾

The Austin Public Library turned 100 and Wikipedia turned 25 this year, so in March we celebrated both. 🎂📚 During SXSW EDU, more than 100 people joined us learn how to edit Wikipedia while to exploring local history with the @austinpubliclibrary and austinhistorycenter.

Some of the articles edited were Drafthouse Cinema, Mueller Community, and Keep Austin Weird. After the edit-a-thon, there was a WikiHaus Meetup, hosted by @WikiPortraits and Wikicurious at the Graeber Historic Mansion on Sixth Street.
