The end of a chapter 🌻 we have officially moved out of @mangaroafarms, our abundant regenerative home for the last 3-5 years. This little valley nestled in Upper Hutt, has held us through the rite of passage into parenthood & Zephyr’s first 2 years of life, it has nourished us with incredible organic kai grown on the land, and taught us so much about what it means to be in relationship to place & coexist in community. When I joined Graedon on the farm almost 3 years ago after finishing my degree, my intention was to really get to know this land, its plants, and work with my hands in the Earth. Since then I’ve witnessed this land through many seasons, attuned to its rhythms, met many plant allies in the physical for the first time that I will now know for life, learnt how to make my own medicine from the land, created my first ever herbal product range making over 100L of medicine and dozens of batches of balms and teas, hosted multiple foraging workshops, set up a herbal apothecary that will continue to weave herbal medicine into the community without me ~ all whilst rediscovering myself as a mother.

Meanwhile, I’ve witnessed Grae become not only an amazing father but a cornerstone to the evolution of this place ~ everything sketched in his notepad manifested into the physical ~ weaving his artistry & heart throughout this place so beautifully.

It has been nothing short of an incredible learning journey that I will cherish forever. This place - the Mangaroa river carving through the land with its roads framed with hawthorn and elder, its incredible colours in autumn, its low fog in winter that covers the hills like a blanket, its incomparably delicious veggies, its soulful generous community… has a piece of our hearts forever ❤️ thank you thank you thank you. Mangaroa farms is a true example of what it means to make the world a better place.

But as the land teaches us the importance of decay… everything must eventually be released back the the Earth, composted to create the fertile soil for something new 🌱and so it is… a new chapter begins✨ @ednotmed #regeneration

🫐 IMMUNE-SUPPORT ELDERBERRY SYRUP 🍯 full recipe below ~ save this for when you need it 🍂

An elderberry syrup is a simple and easy recipe you can make for both acute infection and prevention support (if you’re a parent you need this because we all know how easy it is to get sick from your kid 🫠). You can use whatever you have on hand!

Elderberry is the heart of it with its high vitamin C, expectorant + immuno-stimulating properties. I’m also using elderflower for its diaphoretic fever support, astragalus & echinacea for their immune building and anti-inflammatory properties, ginger & cinnamon for their antimicrobial qualities, warmth, & ability to enhance the circulation and absorption of the medicine. Olive leaf, thyme & reishi are other add ins I love!

INGREDIENTS
1 cup dried elderberries
3 tbsp dried elderflower
3 tbsp astragalus root
3 tbsp echinacea root/leaf mix
2 tbsp cinnamon bark or 2 cinnamon sticks
2 tbsp fresh ginger, grated
5 cups filtered water
1 cup raw honey or more for desired taste/consistency

METHOD
1. Add all herbs to pot of water. Bring to boil and reduce to simmer with lid on for 35-40 minutes.
2. Remove from heat. Strain through a fine sieve or cheesecloth, pressing to extract all the goodness.
3. Let the liquid cool until just warm, below 40°C, before stirring in the honey. This keeps its living enzymes intact.
4. Bottle up! Keeps in the fridge for 2-3 months, or freeze in small portions for longer.

Take 5-10ml (2.5ml-5ml for little ones) daily through the colder months for prevention, or every 2 hours at the first sign of sickness 🌀
