Evanston hosted New Trier in the first high school game in Northwestern University’s new Ryan Field. New Trier won 42-28 in this latest game of the rivalry that started more than a century ago in 1913.

It’s older than the Chicago Bears vs Green Bay Packers rivalry which dates back to November 27, 1921 when the then Chicago Staleys shutout the Packers 20-0 at Cubs Park (now Wrigley Field) thanks to a touchdown by previous Bears owner George Halas.

That year, the Staleys/Bears won the first of their 9 NFL Championships (1921, 1932, 1933, 1940, 1941, 1943, 1946, 1963, & Super Bowl Champions during the 1985 season).

More than 26,000 tickets sold for tonight’s New Trier vs Evanston High School football game at Northwestern University’s new Ryan Field. That’s more than the announced attendance at last Saturday’s Northwestern home game vs Ball State University. The IHSA tells me they usually see roughly 20,000-30,000 fans for each year’s state football championship games combined. #chicagosuburbs
