Today’s rainy day project: sorting and organizing salt and warm water species lures. Many are hand made and some are still in the package from the 1950s.

What a great weekend in Missoula, MT with the @bha_afi crew. @backcountryhunters always hosts a great North American Rendezvous. This year Shawn and I received the Dwight D. Eisenhower award for exceptional work on behalf of our military community. I was humbled to receive such an award as our team of volunteers across the country deserve the credit for the work they put in for this program, our military community, and conservation. I was honored to share the stage with conservation advocates from around the country like @wiredtohunt and Brock Wahl. Amongst the fun of Rendezvous, I was able to escape and going fishing on the beautiful public lands Montana has to offer. Even got to fish the famous salmon fly hatch. With a renewed spirit and appreciation for our public lands, it’s back to work to defend what rightfully belongs to every American! United we stand for public lands! #publiclandowner #backcountryhuntersandanglers

05/12/25) Congressional Representatives are trying to sell more than 500,000 acres of our public lands! As a member of the BHA community, you’re on the front lines. Here’s what you need to know – and how you can help Public Land Owners fight back!

What’s Happening
• On May 6, the House Natural Resources Committee advanced a last-minute amendment to the budget reconciliation bill authorizing the sale of public lands in Utah and Nevada.
• What started as reports of 11,000 acres has since ballooned to more than 500,000 acres, with some parcels including important habitat for big game, upland birds, and critical public access.
• This happened with zero public input, zero conservation planning, and zero plans for reinvestment into habitat or access.

Why It Matters
• The amendment bypasses the Federal Land Transaction Facilitation Act (FLTFA) – a bipartisan law BHA helped make permanent. FLTFA requires public land sales to be reinvested into acquiring new public access, wildlife habitat, and recreational lands, and not be used as short-term budget “fixes.”
• This sale violates that promise and sets a dangerous precedent that could very easily be repeated in our remaining 48 states.
• Public lands in Utah and Nevada belong to all of us. If Utah and Nevada fall, other states will NOT be far behind.

BHA’s Position
“We’ll work with anyone, anywhere, to find real solutions. But if you’re looking to carve up America’s public lands behind closed doors, you won’t find compromise – you’ll find us.”
– Ryan “Cal” Callaghan, BHA North American Board Chair

While the nation focused on the inauguration earlier Monday, January 20th, 2025, the North Carolina Chapter of Backcountry Hunters & Anglers (NCBHA) hosted important conversations of our own. We were honored to welcome BHA’s CEO, Patrick Berry, who has been at the helm for just over one year. Patrick joined us as he passed through North Carolina on his way to dog trials in South Carolina, taking the time to connect with us and discuss the future of BHA.

The evening centered around a roaring campfire in the middle of a remote field near Raleigh, NC, where temperatures barely climbed above 39°F—a rare chill for the Southeast. With freshly caught fish frying and a recent year’s harvest of venison grilling, the scene reflected the essence of who we are: a community built on sustainable harvests, camaraderie, and a shared love for the outdoors.

As the fire crackled and the warmth brought everyone closer, discussions ranged from strengthening bonds within our chapter to enhancing conservation efforts across the nation. Patrick’s leadership and insights were invaluable as we explored how to build on our successes and continue advocating for public lands and waters.

It’s gatherings like these that highlight the passion and dedication of NCBHA, the North Carolina Armed Forces Initiative (NCAFI), and all who work to advance BHA’s mission. Together, we represent not just our state but also the national efforts that Patrick Berry so ably leads. Here’s to many more conversations that inspire action, unity, and conservation for generations to come. @backcountryhunters @bha_afi @bha_fortliberty @nc_bha_afi @lejeune_bha_afi #publiclands #publicwaters

🏈 Final game and 8th grade night! The last two years Caiden has pushed himself, stepped outside his comfort zone, and created some awesome memories with his wonderful group of friends. I could not be more proud of him! I’m keeping my fingers crossed he wants to play high school ball next year bc I kinda like this whole “football mom” thing! Love ya kiddo! #football #sportsmom #footballmom #boymom 🏈

After a day of reflecting I can’t be more proud of these boys. We put on one hell of a show all in the name of conservation. We left the @nc_bha Second Annual Conservation Banquet with our bellies full and our hearts even fuller. We can’t thank everyone who had a hand in this and the attendees enough. Stay tuned cause we are not even close to being done yet! Thanks for all the great 📸 : @groceghost

I am so, so proud to be a part of NC Backcountry Hunters & Anglers and of the men in this photo. This Saturday they hosted the second annual Conservation Banquet in Charlotte at @sugarcreekbrewing and they knocked it out of the park. Expect great things happening in North Carolina.
