🎸 WILKO RETURNS HOME TO ESSEX! 🎭

The acclaimed UK tour of Wilko: Love and Death and Rock ’n’ Roll arrives at Southend’s Palace Theatre this week, running from 12 to 17 October!

Celebrating the remarkable life of Canvey Island legend Wilko Johnson, the production explores the story of the Dr Feelgood co-founder whose unmistakable guitar playing and magnetic stage presence left a lasting mark on British rock music.

The Southend performances also promise some very special appearances from Billy Bragg, Ruts DC, Nine Below Zero, Norman Watt-Roy, Johnny Squirrel, Malcolm Wilkinson, Jeff Chapman and Steve “West” Weston.

Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, I was unable to attend the production, which I’m absolutely gutted about. This was a show I had been really looking forward to seeing and sharing my thoughts on.

Although there won’t be a review from me this time, I still wanted to give this production a well-deserved shout-out!

Wishing the entire cast, creative team and everyone involved a fantastic week in Southend! ❤️🎭

🎸 WILKO: LOVE AND DEATH AND ROCK ’N’ ROLL 🎸

The acclaimed UK tour of Wilko: Love and Death and Rock ’n’ Roll is coming home to Essex, with eight performances at Southend’s Palace Theatre from 12–17 October.

The production tells the extraordinary story of Wilko Johnson, the Canvey Island born co-founder of Dr Feelgood, whose distinctive guitar style and electrifying stage presence helped shape the sound of punk and influenced generations of musicians.

The Southend run will feature an incredible line-up of special guests, including Billy Bragg, Ruts DC, Nine Below Zero, Norman Watt-Roy, Johnny Squirrel, Wilko’s brother Malcolm Wilkinson, Jeff Chapman and Steve “West” Weston.

Opening night on Monday 12 October.

The show explores Wilko’s incredible career, from Dr Feelgood and Ian Dury and the Blockheads to his later acting role in Game of Thrones, alongside the terminal cancer diagnosis in 2012 that was expected to give him just one year to live.

Wilko went on to live for another nine years, turning what was expected to be a farewell into an extraordinary final chapter.

With live music, storytelling and Wilko’s own words at its heart, this is a celebration of an Essex rock ’n’ roll legend in the place he called home.

And with 2026 marking 50 years since Dr Feelgood’s Stupidity became the UK’s first live album to reach number one in its first week, the timing couldn’t be more fitting.

📍 Palace Theatre, Southend
📅 12–17 October 2026

A very special Essex homecoming for one of rock ’n’ roll’s true originals. 🎸
