POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

It takes a village.
Over the past two years, the San Quentin Film Festival has been shaped by an incredible community of actors, filmmakers, artists, advocates and industry leaders who have shown up to support incarcerated and formerly incarcerated storytellers.
From conversations inside San Quentin to the relationships and opportunities that continue beyond the festival, every person who lends their time, experience and voice helps create something bigger than any one event.
As we prepare for our third annual festival, we’re grateful for everyone who has been part of this community so far — and excited for what we’re building next.
The Third Annual San Quentin Film Festival returns October 22–23, 2026.

A sky full of stars, indeed.

Celebrating the 2025–26 Employee Recognition and Service Awards alongside some of the brightest stars at Cal State LA. Every star. Every story. One brilliant community.

We’re lucky to work alongside one another, bringing our different talents, stories, and strengths together in service of our Golden Eagle students. Together, we shine brighter and help light the way for the students and community we serve.

Grateful for the work, proud of our people, and always ready to soar together.

At LA Pride, our Golden Eagles truly embodied this year’s theme, Rise With Pride.

As we marched down Hollywood Boulevard, our students, alumni, and colleagues shined brightly in their authenticity, joy, and pride. We were especially honored to be joined by the founder of Cal State LA’s first LGBTQIA+ student organization, @instaphotojoe alongside his husband and their two sons, a powerful reminder of the progress made and the work that remains to ensure all people are seen, loved, and accepted with equity.

I was proud to walk with a work family that allows me to bring my full self to work every day. Pride reminds us that belonging matters and that our collective responsibility is to create communities where everyone can thrive.

Some people join an organization… and some people leave a legacy ✨
To our graduating President, Vice President, Secretary and board members — thank you for the passion, leadership, creativity, and heart you poured into PRSSA at Cal State LA 💛
You built more than events and meetings; you built a community. A space where students felt welcomed, inspired, supported, and empowered to grow. Your impact will continue long after graduation, and the mark you’ve left on this chapter will never be forgotten.
Thank you for the late nights, the big ideas, the laughs, the memories, and the love you gave to PRSSA 🥹✨
Though this chapter is ending, your next one is only beginning — and we know you’ll continue doing amazing things wherever life takes you 🌟
Once PRSSA family, always PRSSA family 💛🖤

We'll never forget sitting inside the Washington State Penitentiary and watching movies alongside the men living behind the walls.

Inside the prison, men who have spent years or decades on the inside sat together watching films made by other incarcerated creators and getting a showing of Lockdown which was made inside. You could feel the shift in the room. Excitement. Pride. And something deeper… possibility.

It wasn't just a screening. It was a glimpse of what life could look like beyond the walls. And a reminder that their voices, their creativity, and their futures still matter. That moment is why the Justice Media Film Festival exists. And none of it happens without an incredible community behind it.

Thank you to our Presenting Sponsors Koncrete Industries and Moreno & Castillo Construction, Community Access Sponsors Foundry Vineyards, Price Computers, Sharon Martin Windermere, and Visit Walla Walla, and additional support from the Port of Walla Walla and The Wesley & Garden Motel.

Thank you to Don Roff, Warren Etheredge, Betsy Hadden, Tamey Greene, Teresa Fausti, Tiffany Sinclair, Rob Jackson, Chris McGill, Josh Lancaster, Chris Wright, Gesa Powerhouse Theatre, Young Black & Brilliant, El Taco Loco, and our cohosts from the San Quentin Film Festival - Abby Pierce, Tiffany "Tiny" Cruz, Rahsaan Thomas, Brian Asey Gonsoulin, Sam Robinson, William Henry Baker III, and Mike Foster. And our entire Unincarcerated team.

This is only the beginning. More screenings, more stories, more communities. Want to bring this to yours? rachel@unincarcerated.com

There were moments in this work when we didn't know if we'd get here.
Moments when the grief was louder than the hope. When the systems felt immovable. When the people we cared most about were still on the other side of freedom. What carried us through wasn't a program or a policy.

It was love. Genuine, radical, stubborn love for people the world had discarded. It was the quiet support of those who showed up without being asked. It was empathy - the kind that costs something - and a slow, hard-earned expansion of what we believed restorative justice could do. We are not the same organization we were when we started. We've been changed by this work, by the people in it, and by the lives now lived free.

To everyone who has been part of this journey: thank you! This milestone belongs to all of us.

The Justice Media Film Festival has come to a close - and we are overwhelmed with gratitude. This event was more than a film festival. It was a gathering of community, a platform for voices that deserve to be heard, and a reminder of why storytelling matters in the pursuit of justice.

None of it would have been possible without the incredible people and organizations who stood with us.

A heartfelt thank you to our Presenting Sponsors: Koncrete Industries & Moreno & Castillo Construction. Your investment in this work is an investment in justice.

To Gesa Powerhouse Theatre - thank you for being a world-class home for these powerful stories.

To the speakers who traveled from the San Quentin Film Festival and shared their truth with our community - Abby Pierce, Tiny (So Boom), Don Roff, Rahsaan Thomas, Brian Asey Gonsoulin, Sam Robinson, William Henry Baker III, and Mike Foster - your presence elevated every moment of this event. The impact you made will ripple far beyond that room.

To our nonprofit partner, Young Black and Brilliant - thank you for your continued partnership and for the transformative work you do every day.

To El Taco Loco - you fed our community with warmth and incredible food. Grateful doesn't cover it.

To the Unincarcerated team who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to bring this vision to life:
Vik Chopra | Spencer Oberg | Rachel Kjack | Zac Bentz | Anthony Covert | John Shaw | Megean M Sanchez | Josh Lancaster | Chris Wright

You are the engine. Thank you.
And all the guys inside! We love you guys. You are family.

And to our community! The people who showed up, engaged, and stood in solidarity - this is for you, and it's because of you.

We look forward to continuing this work and growing this conversation. Stay connected! So much more is coming.

It was an absolute honor to co-emcee the Employee Recognition and Service Awards Celebration this morning @calstatela . It was an amazing feeling to experience the great energy in the room of faculty, staff, and student assistants combined and celebrating hard work and victories throughout the years of service and the present times. 🦅✨

Bonus for me for the costume changes and knowing how to make the crowd laugh while giving out flowers! Thank you @willbakeriii for allowing me to share the stage with you! 💐
