HAIRSPRAY 🎀🪩🕺🏻✨📺💈💜🎪

We closed this beautiful, joyous, and magical show on Sunday and my heart and soul couldn’t be more fulfilled. This show, these people, and this place have my heart forever. The past month has been filled with the biggest smiles, laughter, and the most palpable joy. Every chance I get to come back to the circus always feels like coming home to family, and that is the most wonderful and special gift. I feel so gosh darn lucky!!! I already miss our time in Baltimore so much and will be holding onto these memories forever. You can’t stop the beat, baby!!!

Endless gratitude to @roby_robbie & @scottklier for this dream come true!!! Thank you thank you thank you ❤️

OPENING NIGHT. 💚

Still taking this one in.

There are experiences in this career that mean more than you can fully put into words, and this has been one of them.

Getting to step into Seaweed’s converses again, surrounded by such an incredibly talented, generous, and experienced company, has been a gift. I’ve learned so much already—not only as a performer, but as an artist and as a person. Every rehearsal, every performance, every conversation, and every moment in between has reminded me why I love this work so deeply.

And then there’s the love and support.

@alishareneejohnson , @_samantha.jacobson_ & @lisfabgal To my friends, chosen family, and community who showed up for me — traveled, came to the theater, brought flowers, cheered, celebrated, and reminded me that I am never doing this alone: thank you. Your presence meant more to me than you know. ❤️

I’m also incredibly grateful to our creative team for trusting me with this role and creating a space where I can continue to grow. Thank you to @roby_robbie, @sacmusicals , @scottklier and everyone who has poured their time, talent, and heart into bringing this production to life.

Standing on that stage, hearing that audience, and sharing that moment with these incredible artists is something I’ll carry with me for a lifetime. There’s something indescribable about looking out into that audience and realizing you’re exactly where you’re supposed to be. 🥹

I’m grateful. I’m full. And I’m ready for the rest of this journey, because we’re just getting started!

We’re still in Baltimore — come see us at the UC Davis Health Pavilion at Broadway at Music Circus through August 30th!

1/3 TJ’s Theatre Reviews
Hairspray with Broadway at Music Circus

The show was absolutely incredible from top to bottom, start to finish. I knew I loved the script and so many of the songs, and Music Circus heighted the entire experience with fantastic costumes, wigs, staging, choreography, and performances. Definitely go see this show before it closes if you are able.

I also recommend watching director/choreographer Robbie Roby’s interview where he shares his personal connections to the show. It certainly heightened it for me, and a passion for the material, themes, and audience experience came through. Excellent costumes as always, including some fantastic quick reveals. Character and personality throughout. That’s equally true with the hair and makeup, with many of the wigs being both literally and figuratively part of the show and plot. The choreography was top notch, feeling period appropriate, but also fresh, high energy, but also taking moments to groove and get down. The singing was as top notch as ever, and the orchestra was incredible.

As I always say, great leads make a great performance, but ensemble make you want to come back and see it again and that was certainly the case this time. Fantastic all around, but I took a bit of particular joy seeing Patrick Garr and Domonique Patton paired up dancing near the end of the show. Dominique was also incredible as one of three Dynamites along with Kylie Edwards and Khalifa White. I also unabashedly cheer on for Tanner Pflueger who I’ve had the immense pleasure of working backstage for and his energy and smile are infectious. Altamiece Carolyn Cooper was equally infectious with her rhyming and powerful vocals as Motormouth Maybelle. It was wonderful seeing Ben Fankhauser as well. His Corny Collins was charming, confident, and I loved seeing him get down in the Finale.
