✨“Happiness is pretty simple: someone to love, something to do, something to look forward to.” 🇲🇽♥️

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Bye, July ✌️ My goal for the month was creative indie-pendence, a pun combining Independence Day with being an indie filmmaker. I did another edition of @makingitinla_ and did so at my favorite LA watering hole. I directed another movie. I played some pickleballI. I saw a lot of friends as well as a handful of great movies. I’m still working on how to not need a day job but I’ve got a full life of amazing creative pursuits, tremendously talented collaborators, and the greatest friends around. It can be hard to live in between but something makes me think I’m going to look back on this time with a fondness. Still on my way but enjoying the journey. On to August!

Tonight! What does expression sound like from previously underrepresented voices? What does community mean to a group defined by who they love? And, most importantly, what does solidarity mean to a people who have been denied acceptance? Through six short films and conversations with the filmmakers, we’re going to explore this while celebrating the queer filmmaking community of LA! Limited 🎟️ are available in bio and at the door. See you at 7! @makingitinla_

Tomorrow! We’re pleased to screen the world premiere of Room Service! The drama will be screening July 9th at Akbar presented by director Jonathan Hammond, writer Adam Guerino, actors William Magana and Alan Natale. After the short, we’ll talk about filming on a tight schedule, queer solidarity, and more.
🎥 🌈
Thursday July 9th, Making It In LA crashes into Akbar, LA’s legendary gay bar, with multiple unapologetically queer short films made in LA.
🎥 🌈
Real talk with the filmmakers after every film. No pretense. Just the candid conversations about process and passion you can expect from a MIILA event with an emphasis on the community behind it. Whether you’re queer or an ally, this event is a celebration of LA’s queer filmmaking community.
🎥 🌈
Making It In LA is building something. Join the film presenters after the show for The Filmmaker’s Lounge for deeper connections, future collaborations, and the audience voted MIILA prize. Hosted by filmmaker and MIILA creator Adam Guerino.
