4th of July 2026. ✨

I might have to fast this week because I ate so much. 😂 But more importantly, I laughed for days, followed my bliss at every turn, and made memories with people I love.

From DJing a backyard barbecue, celebrating with friends, walking Jada, catching an incredible set by @wyatt_waddell4 at the Blue Note, and ending up with a brilliant portraits by @domferris ... this week/end was full in all the right ways.

Thank you to everyone who shared a meal, a dance, a conversation, a hug, or a moment with me. Here’s to a summer of more joy, more community, and more following what feels good.

people are surprised that I have 2 degrees in theology because I'm a trans woman supporting queer people. 🎓

the main reason why I'm not a Christian anymore isn't theological, but coincidental. this story has to do with lost mail and podcasts. 📦

when I moved to Nashville in 2019, my parents mailed me a box with all of my bibles and 100 copies of my CD. that box got lost, and it never arrived. 🚫 was it a coincidence or a divine intervention?

I'm Autistic, so my routines are very important to me. losing my bibles meant I couldn't do my daily routines like I had. and when COVID hit, I needed new practices for emotional regulation.

at the same time, I listened to @theliturgists and Heretic Happy Hour and realized I never cared for the dogmatic teachings about life after death. Jesus' teachings resonated with me because of him teaching us to love our neighbors and challenge oppressive systems. 🎙️ I loved the social justice oriented theology at Vanderbilt because of its embodied practicality. ✊🏻

with shifting beliefs and anxiety about my future, I turned to the one thing I had left: my body. over the next months, I moved from Christian theology to a community-focused politicized somatics. 🫂

in the next videos, I'll share how Christian purity culture affected my sexuality and homophobia my attraction towards men. 🖤 ✨

with care and curiosity,
Joelle Marcelle
