The world can be dark and cruel and I’ve thankfully not experienced such cruelty until now.

But I’m going to choose light & love. Because that’s what Jacob would want. I will miss you so much my dear, sweet friend. I am so grateful to have had one last lunch date, one last hug before I left. Grief is a roller coaster, and while still dealing with heart break and so many tears and questions, I’ve also had moments of peace. A feeling that while it is extremely not right, unfair, that your life had to be the one taken so horribly, you did more good than those who live lives triple the length of yours. Your goodness is inspiring to all of us still here to be more like you. I feel your presence and your support, just like I always did when you were still with us. You’ll never leave my heart Jacob. I’m sorry this had to happen to you but immensely grateful for every moment together. I am infinitely better because of you. We all are. Like you said, “it’s not goodbye, just see ya later!” ❤️💔☀️

Oh Jacob, my heart and soul ache.

I wish I could wake up from this nightmare and turn back time and make everything go differently. I wish a million things, but most of all I wish I could hear your laugh one last time and see your smile light up one more room. This loss has broken me, mind, spirit, and soul. I don’t understand how someone could do something so heinous and take one of the best and brightest people from this world and from us. But I am doing my best to keep the hate out and just remember the love and positivity that you embodied.

I will always cherish my memories with you. I will cherish the hours we spent paddle boarding on the lake, playing charades and CRUSHING state capitals together, every trivia night, every sporting event, long Dockside nights, watching you and Hoopie play together, sitting in bars cheering on WVU, the hikes, the bonfire nights, the friends I’ve made because of you, the workouts that you definitely didn’t enjoy but I enjoyed having you at, and the love and kindness you gave to every person you met. Most of all I will cherish quoting every single line from SpongeBob and our mutual love for the show. You were the SpongeBob to my Patrick and the mihoy to minoy.

I’m sorry I never gave you back your lawnmower. I’m sorry that I wasn’t there to protect you. I’m sorry most of all that I didn’t have you in my life longer.

While this hole in my heart will never fully heal, I promise to always do your memory justice by trying to be like you each and every day. I promise to smile more, laugh harder, try and actually enjoy WVU sports, love every human like they were my own blood, and live each day like it’s my last.

Make time for your friends. Set a coffee or lunch date. Take trips with your loved ones. Hold your family, friends, and dogs tighter for me. You never know when the last time will be that you get to be in their warm glow. Tomorrow is never guaranteed, so live life to the fullest. Live like Jacob, for Jacob.

The only thing that can sum up how I feel right now:
Spongebob: “What do you normally do when I’m gone?”
Patrick: “Wait for you to get back.”

Rest in absolute peace my goofy goober. See you again one day. 🤍
