Thank you to everyone who took part in our September Open 2026 exhibition. It’s been very popular, so congratulations! All the work is down and ready to go - thank you to those who’ve already collected. Our main collection days are Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th October, between 2 and 4 pm. Please email to let us know which day you will come so we can have your work ready. If you need to come at a different time, we have limited availability, so please get in touch as soon as possible!

Last weekend! One along between 3 and 7pm to meet four of the artists participating in our September Open 2026 exhibition.
FREE to visit, all welcome. Pop in for a few minutes or longer, stay for a cup of tea and biscuits (also free), and check out the art.
We are a tower - so expect stairs! But we have chairs to have a rest on each of the landings, and we also have a video presentation of the whole thing on the ground floor. Level access to the ground floor on request (sorry, we can’t leave the side door open).

September Open 2026: Jesmond Murray, Shades of Bali, 2024. Acrylic/Ink/Tissue Paper.

Shades of Bali is an abstract exploration of the island’s vibrant landscapes, culture, and spirit. Layered colours and textures evoke tropical foliage, volcanic earth, shimmering light, and quiet reflection. Rather than depicting a specific place, it invites viewers to experience Bali through emotion, memory, atmosphere, and personal imagination and wonder.

September Open 2026: Charlotte Bobeldijk, The Look, 2026. Oil on Yupo paper. I painted this using oil paint on Yupo, a smooth synthetic surface that doesn’t absorb the paint in the same way as canvas. I really like the way this allows the brushstrokes to stay visible and gives me the option to remove paint as well as add it. I worked quite slowly on this piece, building up areas and then taking them back again, trying to leave only what was needed. I’m interested in keeping some of the original marks and letting the image emerge
from them, rather than describing everything. The process is as much about what I remove as what I add.

September Open 2026: Studio MSN and Sue Nash, Who broke the window? 2026. Fused glass, nylon wire, cycle wheel.

Working collaboratively, this piece originated in experimental glass fusing, using a small microwave kiln. Initially working independently, and with a range of found glass as well as some bought glass and other objects, the idea for a collaborative cascading fall of glass was born through discussing the different results we achieved. Configured and installed specifically for the Tower Gallery void, we take a playful approach to setting and material.

September Open 2026: Virginia Orr, En Route, 2026. Oil on canvas.
I love artificial light in the night, taking photos and printing them in a particular way so the blacks are
extremely deep. As I’m new to painting, the creation of this work became an exploration of process. I was
excited to see how the image might translate to a painting and what effect that would have on its impact
for the viewer. This painting is of a photo taken as I drove along a country road in the middle of nowhere.
