Another great Saturday morning of Stride & Scripture! This week, our group continued our extended study of the Book of Proverbs with Chapter 20.

We once again discussed the importance of using our time wisely. While rest is important, we should be careful not to become lazy or complacent. We must be intentional about using the time God has given us to serve Him and others.

We also talked about how easy it can be to justify our own sin by comparing ourselves to others. Rather than focusing on the shortcomings of those around us, we should honestly examine our own lives and recognize where we need to grow.

Another important topic was how we respond when others wrong us. Rather than seeking revenge, we are called to trust God, forgive others, and leave justice in His hands.

Finally, we discussed the importance of staying spiritually awake as we wait for Christ to return. We don’t know when that day will come, so we should live each day intentionally, continuing to grow in our faith and keeping our focus on Christ.

We’re looking forward to continuing our study with Proverbs 21 next week!

Another great Saturday morning of Stride & Scripture! This week, our group continued our extended study of the Book of Proverbs with Chapter 17. (We forgot to grab a group picture, so enjoy the generic image)

While our initial focus was on Proverbs 17 as a whole, our conversation eventually shifted toward the importance of marriage and the family unit as laid out throughout Scripture.

We discussed how easy it can be to view marriage primarily through a cultural or legal lens rather than as a lifelong covenant before God. From a biblical perspective, marriage is meant to be much more than a contract or arrangement of convenience. It is a commitment built on love, sacrifice, forgiveness, faithfulness, and a shared pursuit of God.

That led to a great conversation about the importance of keeping God at the center of a marriage. No marriage or family will ever be perfect, but a foundation rooted in Christ gives us a standard beyond our own wants and emotions, calling us to patience when things are difficult, forgiveness when we fall short, humility when we disagree, and selflessness in the way we love one another.

We also talked about the distinct and equally valuable responsibilities that husbands and wives are given throughout Scripture. Rather than viewing those differences as a competition for importance, the biblical model calls both husband and wife to serve, sacrifice for, encourage, and remain faithful to one another as they work together toward the same purpose.

Ultimately, our discussion came back to a simple idea: strong families require intentionality. When husbands and wives seek God together, love one another sacrificially, teach and model biblical values for their children, and continually extend grace to one another, the family can become one of the greatest places for faith, character, and love to grow.

We’re looking forward to continuing our study with Proverbs 18!

Another great Saturday morning of Stride & Scripture! This week, our group continued our extended study of the Book of Proverbs with Chapter 16.

We spent a large part of our discussion talking about the importance of controlling our words and actions, even when our emotions may be telling us to do otherwise. Proverbs reminds us that having self-control and being slow to anger are greater signs of strength than acting impulsively. As Christians, we should strive to respond to difficult situations with patience and wisdom rather than allowing our emotions to control how we react.

We also discussed the importance of trusting God’s plans over our own. We can make plans for where we want our lives to go, but ultimately, we have to be willing to surrender those plans to God and trust the path He has laid out for us.

It was great to see a few new faces this week. We’re looking forward to continuing our study with Proverbs 17.

Another great Saturday morning of Stride & Scripture! This week, our group continued our extended study of the Book of Proverbs with Chapter 15.

We discussed how true fulfillment can only come from giving our lives to God rather than chasing worldly things. We were created to live with God and depend on Him, yet we often find ourselves pursuing the things society tells us we should desire. If we continue looking to these things for fulfillment, we will always fall short of what we are truly searching for.

Another topic we discussed was the importance of placing the truth above all else. We must be willing to both give correction to others and receive it ourselves when needed. We have become so concerned with avoiding discomfort or hurting others’ feelings that, at times, we sacrifice the truth because of it. Speaking the truth may not always be easy, but doing so with love and humility is an important part of helping one another grow.

It was great to see a few new faces this week. We’re already looking forward to continuing our study with Proverbs 16 next Saturday!

I found myself smiling throughout this session and beyond.

Maybe it was because I kept imagining what it’s like to work alongside your adult children every day. Sharing lunch, solving problems together, celebrating wins, and watching the people you raised become talented professionals in their own right.

Every family business has its own story, and I loved getting a small glimpse into this one while creating updated branding images for Shaffer Capital.

Thank you for trusting me with your story. It was an honor to help tell a small part of it.

Every business has a story worth telling. If you’re ready to update the way yours is seen, I’d love to help.

Another great Saturday morning of Stride & Scripture! This week, our group continued our extended study of the Book of Proverbs with Chapter 14.

We discussed the importance of being patient instead of acting on impulse, the influence of the people we choose to surround ourselves with, and the importance of living out the Gospel rather than simply talking about it.

One theme that appeared multiple times throughout the chapter was the idea of “fearing the Lord.” This phrase is often misunderstood. It doesn’t refer to fear in the way we think of being scared. Rather, it means having deep reverence, awe, and respect for God as the Creator and Sovereign over all.

While we had a smaller group this week, it was a very thoughtful and meaningful conversation. We’re already looking forward to continuing our study with Proverbs 15 next Saturday!
