Nothing in CONSTRUCTION “just happens.”. For more than a year, LIUNA has been sounding the alarm at this project. When profits come before people, we’ll call it out. Every time. Construction is no place for shortcuts. Build it right. Build it UNION! #nyc #construction #organizeordie #workersrights

Building New York with Skill, Quality, and Union Craftsmanship

The ULA Network was proud to visit 175 East 82nd Street in New York City and speak with Lou Tantillo of Northeast Masonry Restoration Corporation, a signatory contractor working with BAC Local 1 bricklayers and Local 79 mason tenders on an impressive 40-story residential building.

This highly detailed project demonstrates the skill, precision, and training required to construct a complex brick façade featuring custom brick shapes, architectural patterns, and intricate undulations that move in and out across the building’s exterior. Through extensive training and hands-on experience, union craftworkers are prepared to safely complete demanding projects while delivering exceptional workmanship.

Lou also highlighted the value of the union-signatory contractor partnership. Union members receive competitive wages, healthcare, pensions, vacation benefits, and access to continued employment opportunities through the union hiring hall. This system helps skilled workers build stable careers, support their families, and plan for a secure future.

For responsible contractors, hiring highly trained union professionals means completing the job correctly the first time and delivering a finished product designed to last for generations. Projects like this show that investing in union labor is an investment in safety, quality, reliability, and the future of New York City.

The ULA Network is proud to support, educate, and promote the contractors, unions, and skilled craft professionals who are building stronger communities and creating meaningful career opportunities.
