With the wind howling outside and the rain continuously pouring down, we had the perfect weather for sharing tea.

A big thanks to @dynamitevalleybrewery for hosting our little community, and to Kate for looking after us.

We enjoyed a fantastic selection of teas today: 2026 fresh umami-rich green, roasted oolong from @postcardteas, delicious hojicha from @tencha.ldn, pokey puerh (😮‍💨) and even a mysterious sencha from Japan 💌

You may also spot our very special pennant from @helfordsignalworks 🤎✌🏼 Absolutely chuffed with this one—in fact, it probably deserves a post of its own!

Unexpectedly, April has been so full of sweetness 🌼

Filled with sunny walks, time in the garden, and joyful moments shared with friends and family.

When I reflect on the past 30 days, one word rises gently to the surface: connection.

The truth is, part of me has felt tender during this time of year. Last early summer was marked by relentless pregnancy symptoms that left me feeling exhausted, isolated, and ultimately led to a loss at 12 weeks.

That somatic memory has been so deeply embedded in my tissue, I found myself feeling apprehensive, while at the same time wanting to rewrite what this season can feel like. Because life can be this way. This and that.

This past month, with all its rest and nourishment, has reminded me that there is so much joy waiting ahead🌱🐛🦋🤎

And just like that the training is DONE! It’s taken a lot from me both physically and mentally to get to this point, but it finally feels like it’s all coming together. I’m excited for a few weeks of down time now before I start running on Friday 24 April. Hopefully we’ll get a few waves between now and then 🤞🏼 Beautiful 🎥 by @willritson once again

Throwback to this time last year when we screened @kelpfilm at the Quakers Friends Meeting house in Marazion as part of the seaweed festival by @naturalengland

It’s the time of year when seaweed is abundant and ready for us to forage and enjoy 🪸

We’re looking forward to covering more Ocean Conservation stories in the next programme of events (September-April) so until then let’s all get out in the sea and enjoy it and remind ourselves what we’re protecting 🌊

Proud to present the second edition of ‘West’ ~ A collection of my short stories alongside the artwork and photography of talented friends.⁣⁣

‘West’ is an invitation to step into the world of the spirited local surf scene in West Cornwall. Above all, it encompasses my love for the coastline of home and the folks that reside there.⁣ ⁣
⁣
The demand for the sold-out first edition really blew us away. As such we decided to expand the latest edition to feature additional stories, poetry and photography. Published and printed in Cornwall by @ancientmagic.books and presented alongside a new postcard by Imogen Allen and sticker designed by Will Ritson.⁣
⁣
⁣This edition was born beside the wood-fire at the @theblueanchorinn and it felt fitting to update the front cover with an amber hued, spingo ale inspired card made out of beer pulp.⁣
⁣
All profits will be donated to the excellent charity @cr_uk . Many of us will have direct experience of cancer, whether that is a personal journey and/or supporting loved ones. For me that has been helping my Dad as he bravely received treatment for prostate cancer during 2023. Your generous support of the first edition raised £1114 for the Cornish charity @mandowncic and it is our sincere hope we can replicate some of that success again.⁣

Woke up feeling inspired after last night’s 1-1 mentoring session with a talented documentary photographer Sophie.

We chatted about the creative process, starting a new project and how to stay inspired. Feeling very grateful to be having these conversations.

Here are some things I do to support my creative practice:

💌 A reflective practice: dedicating a regular time for contemplation or allows us to connect with our Why?

🌀Meditation - cultivating non-judgmental awareness helps us sharpen the focus, concentration and self-compassion (which is especially helpful when we meet an obstacle on our path)

✨Look for inspiration outside of your medium. Spend time in nature, read, research, go to a gallery. Allow your creativity to be inspired by all sorts of things.

🌅 Stop when you’re feeling stagnant. This is a tricky one. Instead of trying to solve, pause, have a cup of tea, have a bath. Sometimes in order to connect, we have to disconnect first.

🧍🧍‍♀️🧍🏻‍♂️Find your community. When we are feeling stuck, we tend to think that we are the only one moving through this obstacle. And yet those feelings are often universal. Try sharing with others, look for different perspectives. Even if a suggestion made by someone made you realise; that this is exactly what you don’t want to do; you still gain a fresh look!

☯️ Do nothing. Some recent research in psychology and neuroscience provides compelling evidence for the benefits of doing nothing:

”Doing nothing is a great way to induce states of mind that nurture our imagination. Slacking off may be the best thing we can do for our mental health. Seemingly inactive states of mind can be an incubation period for future bursts of creativity. Keeping busy can be a very effective defence mechanism for warding off disturbing thoughts and feelings”*
