SOAR spent our spring break volunteering at the Gulf Coast Center for Ecotourism & Sustainability and learning all about the Gulf Shores conservation efforts and environment!

In addition to having tons of fun on the high ropes course, kayak trip, and bike paths, 10 students contributed to a number of projects and initiatives on the campus including:

- transplanting out 2 types of lettuce, 100+ pine trees, and mustard plants for an in-state pollinator initiative
- clearing and leveling new trails to connect the eco center campus
- relocating species of plants to outline the footprint for a new greenhouse, composting garden, and outdoor classroom
- planting 12 fruit trees and installing custom fences crafted from trees on the property, which now serve as deer fences that seamlessly add to the beauty of the campus
- installing wayfinding signs and mulching a majority of the grounds

A huge thank you to the Gulf Coast staff for being so enthusiastic and welcoming of our group! We’re so grateful to have had the opportunity to serve and learn alongside everyone!
