Augie,
No words can hold this kind of heartbreak. Many summers ago, you came running into my life. Golfing, tanning, boating, debriefs, and simply laughing til we cried. You were a kick-ass kid and my fiercely loyal friend. I feel so blessed that you looked up to me as a big sister, but the truth is you gave me so much more than I could have ever given you. Even in the hardest moments, you showed how important it is to be strong and face challenges with grit and gratitude. In moments where you had every right to be angry, you chose joy. When I came to visit you after one of your surgeries you hit me with your wheelchair and chased me around the kitchen so that I would laugh with you instead of cry for you. Jojo, Dave, Robert, and PJ raised you to be the kind of friend anyone would dream of having — loving, hilarious, kind, and strong. I often referred to you as “my twin,” “my baby,” “my tanning buddy,” and “Channel No. 7.” As you grew up, you were still all those things to me, but you also became someone I could lean on. I take comfort knowing that you knew how deeply I loved you. A few weeks ago, I had the gift of sharing my life in Tuscaloosa with you. You fit right in, and the teary moments we shared singing “Loving Life Again” and “Dixieland Delight” at Morgan Wallen are memories I will cherish forever. I was selfishly so excited that you wanted to attend college at Bama. In our chat the night before your last surgery, we made plans to get together. Your last word to me was “Epic.” And Augie, your life was truly epic. You inspired all who had the honor of knowing you. Your courage was truly remarkable, and you taught so many people to have perspective when life isn’t fair. I will carry your handsome smile, witty laugh, and love for life with me forever. I am heartbroken for all the moments we are going to miss, but so endlessly grateful for the ones we shared. Thank you for being the best little brother to me and Avery. Augie!! What a privilege it was to have you in my life. St. Joes brought us together, and from then on you quickly became family. You were one hell of a human being and so deeply loved by everyone lucky enough to know you. One of the most special things about you was your ability to bring people together so effortlessly and make everyone feel like they belonged. Thank you for the love, laughter, and memories, from countless nights spent binge watching TV shows to millions of tube rides. Your remarkable strength and resilience inspired everyone around you and taught me so much. Thank you for being a little brother to Olivia and me. You should still be here. “Gone from our sight, but never from our hearts”. Augie was the most amazing person to be around. If you got the chance to be around him for more then 5 minutes, you would know he turns everything into a funny, light, and positive mood. He was always laughing and making other people laugh. He was the kind of friend that would do anything for anyone and someone who made life lighter just by being in it. I will never forget the endless memories we all made with you. I will always and forever love you Augie🕊️❤️
