The brand new Hates CD is finally here. Safety Pin Not Included was primarily recorded in November and December of last year when Will was still in the band, with occasional overdubs and mixing taking place until May. Five new songs (including the one off Seasons Greetings single from December with a different mix and new guitar tracks), and six very old tunes that few have heard. Most are from 1988's Xenophobia, with "Bother" dating back to the Guyana Boys Choir in late 1978. That song in its original 4 track rehearsal form was included as the opening track on 1995's Greatest Hates, and was eventually redone as Pommy in 2004 with Joel Mora on drums, and Chad Schenck on bass, long before he became a Rooftop Boxer and the CEO of StappChat. This is the first time it's been professionally recorded with its original lyrics and arrangement (don't say I didn't warn you at those lyrics though.) @charlienothing did a phenomenal job on this, having tons of patience on my constant ideas and my keyboard parts, which I somehow cobbled together, and we're so excited to work with him again starting next weekend. @splendid_obsolescence gave it an additional slight mastering to have it pop, and it's easily the best sounding thing I've done with this band. And make no mistake, this is the coolest fucking layout The Hates have ever done. Other than the CDs and cases, all of this was done in house at the print shop; the buttons on the front cover, the patches on the back, the sleeves and back tray, the design of the insert and disc, everything. @autumnb0mb deserves all the praise for everything she did helping with this, with me constantly bugging her throughout the day of what we could add in photoshop or indesign. After all the AI shit my feed gets plagued with, its a pleasure to see something DIY with tangible materials that I now have as souvenirs of this album's creation. I'd of course be remiss to not mention our poster model @snaggletoothbandit. All 50 copies from this initial run will include a foldout poster of everyone's favorite punk. She may even sign it if you ask nicely. I haven't added this to streaming or Bandcamp yet, but we will have copies this Saturday at Rudz

Got some lovely news today. Joel Mora's birthday bash is now scheduled for March 8th at 1810 Ojeman. As previously announced, the double bass attack of David Deviant and Chi Chi Rodriguez will be in full effect, and Joel will hop on drums for a few songs as well. It'll be the first time in fifteen years that the "classic" lineup of The Hates will have shared a stage together, so don't miss it. The weather should much nicer, too. Also, one last annoying reminder that Dave and Nicholas will be joining Christian and I this coming Friday at Ojeman with Sons of Honey, Bar Rats, and The Lockdowns.

The Hates 2026 lineup. Because I don't know when Sir Kidd and I can coordinate a picture with everyone, this is the official image we're going with. At any given show, you can expect to be blown away by one of our three mega talented bassists. Will/Chi Chi is the tried and true; ten years and counting as a Hate. Killer on the backing vox and an extensive back catalogue knowledge to go through which guarantees that no two sets are alike. Nick is an enthusiastic die hard Creed fan (jk). He doesn't bless us with angelic backing vocals, but he makes up for it by picking up on songs like a savant, and is holding his own on learning more of the material. He has a badass bass tone, and his reggae work in Wyde Roots speaks for itself. (His sets also give us a chance to dig up some Rezillos covers.) Last but certainly not least, Dave Deviant. From 1992 to 2011, (minus a year long departure in the early 2000s), Dave held the fort down for the Hates, and essentially became the frontman on stage with his wild antics and vocals. He spearheaded the rockabilly era of the band, which, while it may have had a love/hate relationship with the punk and rockabilly communities respectively, is something I've heard almost unanimous positive feedback on in the years since I've joined. Maybe we'll bring those back sometime. Originally envisioned as a one off to do a handful of songs with us, Dave has now done two full shows with us along Nick and Will, and he's made it clear he's regained his passion for playing again, and intends to play a show with us when his schedule allows it. The fact that he has not lost his energy or talent one bit in his 14 year hiatus shows the type of musician he is. So there you have it. The shows are gonna be a Russian roulette of who you'll see tearing it up on stage. You could even have two bass players at the same time. Maybe all three!

Thank you @rehabonthebayou for hosting a couple of scraggly punks today. Even though we couldn't pull off our super sweet double bass trick due to Dave recovering, @nicholastcall killed it like he always does. Which brings me to these next two shows- at the end of the month we'll be playing @1810ojeman on consecutive weekends. The 25th will be a matinee show with Brightwire and Grifters&Shills. Not only will Dave Deviant be on bass duties that night, but Brightwire's own (and ex Hate) Joel Mora will be playing a song or two with us on drums for his birthday, reuniting what many consider to be (including myself) the classic Hates lineup for the first time since 2011. The following weekend, Nick will once again step in on bass as we tear it up with Sons of Honey, The Lockdowns, and my lads in Bar Rats. We have three fantastic bass players at the moment and it's pretty sweet they all get a chance to shine this month. (Nick Pastors likeness used without permission)

Had a blast recording with @charlienothing yesterday. Accomplished so much in one day that all we really have to do is lead vocals and overdubs. Some unpunk material on this thing, which is always exciting. Not necessarily a new Hates album, but more like a new EP backed by a handful of rerecorded old tunes that never got a chance to shine properly. Can't wait to finish this project.
