Here’s how to create a Gruffalo themed birthday party 🤎 🍄 🪵 I absolutely love bringing details to life, and I’m so lucky I get to do this for my boys birthdays year after year 🤎🍄🪵
My biggest suggestion as a starting point is find an independent creator (Etsy is the best place) and work with them. I chose @bynovemberdesigns_ for all my Gruffalo details. Signage, food labels, images, cake topper etc. She brought my designs to life & MORE, what a clever creative! Follow & use her!
I used signs to create designated play areas- ‘down by the lake’ was a paddling pool, ‘treetop house’ was a climbing frame, and ‘underground house’ was a tipi.
It’s so fun choosing Gruffalo themed food inspired by the book!
Roasted fox- carrots
Knobbly knees- sausages
Poisonous warts- grapes. I’ll list more of them as a comment as not enough text here.
I created an ‘owl ice cream’ stand using toppings & signage. It’s lots of fun & gives the kids a moment to ‘chill’ after running around!
Chocolate ice cream so it’s brown like a Gruffalo.
Scrambled snake- popcorn & jelly worms
Terrible teeth- mini marshmallows
Turned out toes- chocolate sprinkles
Gruffalo eyes- edible cake decorative eyes
I reused little hats I had from a previous birthday for the Gruffalo figures nestled in faux foliage to create a Gruffalo landscape effect.
All kids love face paint! A traditional party classic I’ll be using for every birthday whatever the theme. We hire the best in the bizzzzz @marias_facepainting who creates the most beautiful designs plus any design the kids request!
Every birthday we get the BEST cake in the entire world from @wilmasbakery we chose a chocolate design to resemble a woodland log, with toadstool candle holders to add to the woodland affect from @holly.co and a Gruffalo cake topper.
We use @bertiesballoons for every birthday as she’s so talented & creative.
Everything is reusable which is more sustainable, I love having a birthday box I can dip into as some birthday themes crossover.
🤎🍄🪵 and that’s it! Oh I love a birthday! 🪵🍄🤎

The girls were well and truly pampered with mini manicures, gorgeous hairstyles, face masks, glitter, a cheeky Domino’s, and delicious cupcakes! 💅✨🍕🧁

The salon was full of laughter, smiles, and lots of special memories. Thank you for celebrating with us we hope you all had the best time! Happy 8th Birthday, Freya & Mia! 💗

Got a sweet tooth in Essex? This one might cost you a few extra summer stops. 🍦

I’ve picked out the local places worth knowing when only something cold, colourful and slightly indulgent will do. There’s something here for the ice-cream loyalists, smoothie fans and anyone who treats a milkshake as a perfectly acceptable lunch.

Which are you choosing first: ice cream or milkshake?

Still finding bits of dinosaur piñata all over the garden, but I hope you had the best 5th birthday party, my gorgeous boy! 💙
My secret (not-so-secret) passion is throwing my kids’ birthday parties at home. I love everything about it, from making all the food myself (definitely not the cake though 😂), to creating balloon arches and bringing all the magic of the day together.
I require several hours of peace, quiet, and zen beforehand... otherwise I’m not so zen anymore! 😅
This year we had personalised face painting, a bouncy castle, and a dinosaur piñata, which turned out to be the absolute highlight of the party….sweets literally falling from the sky?! 🍬🦖✨
We cannot wait to celebrate you just the 4 of us this weekend ! Please slow down the time!
