The first time I heard of Parsons was in the American TV show ‘Friends’ Episode- where Phoebe and Rachel took a literature class at the New School in New York. And Then, in a Bollywood movie ‘Wake up Sid’ where a Parsons graduate joins a magazine company in Bombay as a graphic designer.

My belief at the prestige of this university got confirmed when I was researching for colleges to apply for and found Parsons at the top of every list and at the centre of the big apple. It was obviously my first choice. It was 1 am in India when I received the email containing my acceptance letter. I felt no remorse in screaming, waking the dogs and my parents up to tell them the news. It was surreal.
While I had other university options to choose from- what intrigued me and attracted me to parsons was that I’d have no campus, no borders containing the university- I’d be living in the most diverse city as an adult- without any ‘physical’ parameters reminding me I’m a student part of an institution. At 18 years of age- Id be seen without any preconceptions. And that’s exactly what I’ve gained from my experience living in New York. The hardships, friendships and self-identity reflections has matured me in a way that I never foresaw. And the talent and personalities I have encountered while living here cannot possibly be described.
I’m proud of myself for completing this journey and extremely proud of all my fellow graduating class of 2024 to be able to come out of university stronger than ever.
