Our First Board of Trustees Meeting!

Last week, Student Body President Kelsey Medcalf had the chance to present a report to the Winthrop Board of Trustees. She introduced herself and Jalen, went over their platform, and discussed their goals for the 2026-2027 school year.

We are very excited to work with the Board to make this year the best one yet!

Three Orientation sessions down! 🦅

As Student Body Vice President, Jalen Hayes had the honor of welcoming the Class of 2030 to Winthrop. Having missed his own Orientation due to COVID, standing on that stage made for a true full-circle moment.

Welcome to the Eagle family, Class of 2030. We put the WIN in WINTHROP! 💙

We had a very snuggly visitor to the #Winthrop President’s House today…Meet Nico (spelling TBD), @winthrop_vpsa Shelia Burkhalter’s new fur baby. We have been missing Curry, so Erin and I loved meeting and playing with Nico.

Approximately one-third of #Winthrop students identify as first-generation: a student whose parent(s)/legal guardian(s) have not completed a bachelor’s degree.

This past week #Winthrop celebrated its first generation students with a lunch, panels, connections, and more. Several gathered to take a group photo.

First-Gen Celebration Week at Winthrop was a whole vibe! The energy of new people owning the identity. Students finding their tribe. And, trustees, administrators, faculty, and staff demonstrating through their lived experience “Yes you can!”. This was life giving and affirming. Thank you to all who made this week so special! #celebratefirstgen #firstgenerationcollegestudent

We are celebrating First-generation College Students and Graduates all week at Winthrop. This celebration is particularly important to me because I’m a first-gen graduate and getting an education has changed my world! I am determined to help others to grow and develop beyond their wildest dreams.
