@WISDOMoftheCENTURY is a book that carries the stories and words of wisdom of 90 people over the age of 90 that are in Florida. As the photographer of the book, I have worked on this book together with 3 amazing ladies: Sandra Coiffman ( who came up with the idea ), Merle R. Saferstein ( who wrote all the inspiring stories ), Jenny Menzel ( who designed the book ) and me ( who took all 90 portraits ).⠀

@merles1212 shares a perspective-shifting story about the legacy work she led with Holocaust youth, those who were 14 years old or younger when they survived the Holocaust.

You guys, this latest episode of @grand.exit (out today) features a remarkable woman, @merles1212, who, yes, is a Legacy Educator, and yes: has authored three books but mostly, relative to our origin story: was household-name famous to @chelsfuller because, in living, she was Chelsea’s Grandy’s mentor...her role model in some ways...and we can 𝘴𝘰 see why.

See, Merle - who turned 80 last week (HBD!) - lives and teaches by the mantra, “How you live your life becomes your legacy.” And she’s helped record hundreds upon hundreds of stories, of Holocaust survivors, of elderly folks in her community (S. Florida) who have wisdom to share and of people who allow her the opportunity to know them.

And she’s not all mushy, unicorn-y about it either. She thinks that our legacies are kind of none of our business!! Listen in for a conversation @its.grandy would have, no doubt, shared with everyone she talked to around town (and believe us: that would have been a lot of people!).

For my entire life, I’ve turned to Merle Rothenberg Saferstein (@merles1212) for advice — so much so that I call her my “second mom.” She is my mom @adele.sandberg’s best friend, a former Holocaust educator, and a leader in legacy work who helps people preserve and tell their stories. Now she’s the author of an incredible new book, “Wisdom of the Century.”

Stunning and deeply moving, the book features stories and lessons learned from 90 people in Florida over the age of 90. They are artists, inventors, musicians, physicians, and more — some surviving the Holocaust. They’ve witnessed wars, pandemics, poverty, success, and unprecedented tech advancements. My beautiful Belle…you will be missed. 💔

Every client is ever so special to me, but there are some where a special bond is formed either instantaneously or over time…which makes saying goodbye even harder.
Belle captured my heart the moment we met. I know it sounds like a little love story. But this lady, you had to have met her to understand. She was the sweetest, the kindest, and most humble person.
At 95 years young she volunteered daily, cooked, belonged to book club, and drove herself to doctors appointments. Looking at her you’d never know she carries 95 years of experience on her shoulders but if you had a chance to listen to her story you’d be inspired.

My beautiful Belle. Thank for allowing me to serve you but mostly thank you for your friendship.

Rest in peace
