It’s not that I don’t like small towns, it’s just that I was never swept off my feet by a hot, emotionally available man, and forced to become family with a bunch of wildly intrusive neighbors who were oddly invested in my love life…

RUDE, to be honest.

August wrap-up & September hopefuls ✨

August was very arc heavy and September is shaping up to be just the same. I’ve been trying to knock out some arcs from NetGalley while also simultaneously requesting arcs here on Instagram at an alarming speed 😅 I fear I’ll never be able to catch up but maybe just maybe after September I’ll be above the 80% NetGalley recommends!!

Happy mail! My autographed hardback, Just One More Thing by @withlovedani arrived recently, along with the autographed copy of Real Talk by @bmhcompanies that I won in a LinkedIn giveaway. So fun!

Boom Chukka signed my book too. I wish Miss Violet were still around for this one- she'd have loved smelling Miss Dani and @bullieboom on the book! You can't stop a hound dog's nose and she loooved to give books deep sniffs.

I could not be more proud to see @withlovedani 's debut novel alongside several by her husband @authorbobbyakart . I already pre-ordered book 2 on Kindle. And yes, I have all of Bobby's books on Kindle already - these print copies were a housewarming gift to myself after our military retirement move. Now I need to buy the rest in print... and more bookshelves just for my friends' books! 🤣

My wife Dani Akard became a published author last week.

For the last eleven years, Dani has been behind the scenes while I wrote 85 novels, met deadlines, researched disasters, and generally found new ways to wreak havoc on the world.

I can tell you without hesitation: you would not have gotten all those books from me without her.

Now it’s her turn.

Her debut novel, Just One More Thing, is officially out.

It’s a laugh-out-loud small town romantic comedy about childhood best friends, first love, second chances, a scene-stealing bulldog, meddling neighbors, and a cast of older characters who have no intention of minding their own business.

I’m incredibly proud of her. I watched her build Blue Crab Bay from nothing, fill it with people she loves, and turn it into a heckuva great story.

Spent yesterday afternoon in Blue Crab Bay, and really thought I should come home and pack my bags to move there. It’s such a fun read, with wonderful, immersive language. It immediately felt like I was part of the story, and Hank, the bulldog, is hilariously, perfectly our kind of bulldog 🩷 The Redlands Silent Book Club was the exactly the place to be, with some of my favorite people, on a Sunday afternoon. 🤫 🐾 🩷

🦀💗Just One More Thing🥰🍩

It’s release day!! This is the cutest book, I love the cover😍 This one is definitely giving Stars Hollow town vibes, the people the banter, so so fun to read. I fell in love with this book immediately, Jake is an absolute angel. He is so sweet and romantic and patient with her, and the yearnnninggg omg the yearning from him. I love him😭 I love second chance romance and Just One More Thing really delivers it well, it was done so sweet and just cozy. I don’t really know how to explain the cozy, “I’m in Blue Crab Bay” feeling I t gives you, but the writing is amazing. I love the anxiety rep and how well it was done, having anxiety for no reason is so real to so many of us and I have never once seen it done in a book before😭🫶🏻 I am so happy to have received an ARC copy, thank you @withlovedani for going above and beyond to get me this, and @netgalley 🥰🫶🏻 I can’t wait for the next book!🥰
