The left body shot is one of my favorite attacks! Not only does it pay in the later rounds, it can also stop your opponent with one well placed shot! In my opinion it’s one of the hardest attacks to land so it really does take a lot of practice but once you feel comfortable committing to attacking the body it really is a game changer. When I’m building up combos on the bag or with a partner I’m not trying to hit or kick with power, I’m flowing and trying new things to see what works with my style and movement. Changing the tempo of your punches is something that is extremely important but also takes some time to learn and implement. Hopefully this helps speed that up! One thing that is really important is that you only change the tempo of your punches and not your kicks! Kicks can be caught or countered more easily, leaving you off balance and out of position. It’s better to fake or feint kicks as opposed to changing the tempo. Here are a few good examples of how and when to change the tempo of your punches and combos to help better set them up and land that big shot or multiple shots and finish the fight! I think head movement in Muay Thai is an age old question. There’s definitely pros and cons with certain head movements but ultimately I think the risk is worth the reward. The Muay Femur style displays a lot of that evasive movement using range control and ring IQ to calculate certain head movements that might be looked at as high risk but you know what they say… No risk, no reward!
