We painted a turtle on the streets of katong Joo Chiat!

Inspired by the word "Katong" historically refering to an extinct species of sea turtle, I painted a temporary larger than life turtle on the streets of Joo Chiat, adorned with peranakan motifs on its shell, inspired by the very shophouses that line that same street.

Just like when turtles momentary come back to their own nests, the mural was temporary, and im grateful to everyone that picked up a chalk and added to this short moment of creativity!

$Yesterday, Joo Chiat Road belonged to the community. Looking back on the first Joo Chiat Car-Free Day, my heart is full of gratitude. Born from the vision of our MP @goh.pei.ming , this was only possible because of the many volunteers, residents, grassroots leaders, community partners, businesses, performers and agencies who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make this event possible. What many experienced as a few hours of fun, connection and celebration was the result of months of planning and countless acts of dedication. Thank you also to the thousands of Singaporeans who visited Joo Chiat, walked our streets, explored our heritage, supported local businesses, and embraced the idea of a street transformed into a place for people. It’s amazing to hear the positive feedback, the many photos and videos shared online, and the media coverage that helped bring the spirit of Joo Chiat to a wider audience. But more than the headlines, what I will remember are the smiles, conversations, friendships and community spirit that filled the street. These photos and videos are some of my personal memories from an unforgettable day. They capture only a fraction of what made this event so special. Thank you, Joo Chiat. Thank you, Singapore. Until the next Car-Free Day.$
