This was wholesome ♡ Thank you all for joining us for this special morning. And a big thank you to all the volunteers who helped make it happen.

This morning, we came together to explore the multiperspectivity of independence, colonial histories, and freedom for Indonesian, Moluccan and West-Papuan communities over a shared breakfast organized by With the FAM, Amara van der Elst and OASE.

Curious to try the food? Lisa’s family recipe, Tahu Taugé (Ketoprak), is on the menu at OASE’s Strandtent throughout August.

This upcoming weekend is important for many Rotterdammers. Because on 17 August*, Indonesia proclaimed its independence, beginning a new chapter in the region’s history. This also meant the occupation of Maluku and West Papua. These dates continue to evoke different memories and emotions, shaped by personal and family histories.

That’s why we’re sharing this book. You can find Revolusi at our Strandtent, alongside a selection of books for children and adults exploring similar themes.

Kumpulan means coming together in Indonesian and Malay: around food, conversation, live music, spoken word and performance. Taking place between two significant dates, this gathering is an invitation to listen, ask questions and share perspectives around the same table.

The programme is curated in collaboration with Amara van der Elst and Xavier Assegaf (With the FAM). Line-up: Amara van der Elst, Ruben Croes, Naomi van de Burgt en Lisa Smith.

Kumpulan is for everyone. Whether you have roots in Indonesia, the Moluccas or West Papua, or simply want to learn more, listen and show your support. Come as you are, share a meal, hear different perspectives and connect around the same table.

*17 August also marks Dia di Tula, commemorating Curaçaoan resistance leader Tula. We’ll honour his legacy through music, spoken word, talks and art, with @gedeeldverledengezamenlijketoe

Stuur me vooral een bericht!
