Through Neighbourhood Walks - the trees came to life! 🌳🎨 A huge thanks to WJ Properties for supporting our recent Neighbourhood Walks workshops at Grenoble School! From February to April, students took part in neighbourhood sketching walks where they were encouraged to create works inspired by the world around them! Thanks again to WJ Properties for supporting our mission to spark creativity in youth across the GTA💚

LOCATION UPDATE Due to the rain forecast, the session has been moved indoors to the Clark Centre for the Arts! Fire has the ability to create or wreck, transforming that which it comes into contact with. Ecological collapse has accelerated the scope of its devastation, its brunt most heavily faced by marginalized communities. While the intensity of fire demands reckoning, its heat can also reshapeor forge something anew. As the structures of the everyday become more precarious, fire casts its light over what must be faced to move forward. When a way of life collapses in on itself, how do we imagine ourselves in the aftermath? Just as it can make or destroy, fire also nurtures, the hearth standing as an emblem; a beacon of communal gathering signalling to what lies beyond the immediacy of upheaval. The poems explored will bring together the multiple poles of fire’s capabilities and what can be gleaned from its variances. Building the Communal Fire Participants are invited to bring a small object, a photograph of chosen or biological family (or both), a piece of writing connected to fire, transformation or renewal. It might represent something you wish to release, protect, honour or carry forward. This session will be facilitated by featured poet, Maneesa Veeravel @witsandwounds and Tender Possibilities’ founder, @farhiatato. Maneesa Veeravel is an interdisciplinary artist whose practice moves across poetry, visual art, and community-based creation. A mad, queer, Tamil, gender fluid, survivor, Maneesa was born and settled on the stolen lands of the Wendat, Anishinaabe, Mississaugas of the Credit, and Haudenosaunee peoples. Through art, research, and collective learning, their work gathers intergenerational wits, wounds, and wisdoms, tending to questions of land, body, memory, and the ongoing practice of survival. Last night, Simon Cole (@coopercole) joined us for our latest Open Studio, offering their expertise as a self taught and multifaceted arts professional to our #BEINGSCENE25 artists, Maneesa Veeravel (@witsandwounds), Bethany Carpenter, and Leeay Aikawa (@leeay) Simon advised our artists on next steps for their artistic practice, whether it be how to push their work further or where they see our artists could take their work next. We return with another edition of our Open Studio Series in a little over a week with Ignazio Colt Nicastro (@icnicastro), Toronto-based contemporary art curator, writer, and community builder, who joins us on Monday, August 17. Join us for Tender Possibilities: Poetry as Gathering in KGO, a three-part series presented in collaboration with Scarborough Arts from August 9 to September 19, 2026. Moving through elemental themes, each gathering will consider how poetry can deepen our relationship to place, memory and community. Grounding ourselves within nature physically and thematically, presents an opportunity for us to expand our perception of our day to day surroundings. Sessions will take place at different locations throughout the Kingston-Galloway-Orton Park neighbourhood, inviting us to read and reflect alongside the land, histories and lived experiences of its residents. Greater consideration of how our connection to the environment shapes our personal and collective narratives, enlivens our bonds to the places we call home. Tender Possibilities will host and facilitate the gatherings alongside Scarborough-based featured poets Jesse June-Jack, Maneesa Veeravel and Christopher Kaputo. All sessions take place from 2–4 PM, with refreshments beginning at 1:30 PM. Individual event registration will open closer to each gathering. *Throwback* Call me the biggest nerd, but some of my favourite nights of my life have been online events with @tamfamlitjam during lockdown. Our short film fest in collab with @regentparkfilm will always be peak special - for discovering these little gems of cinema and hearing from the filmmakers themselves. It was healing to be able to connect with global Tamil filmmakers, from Chennai to Switzerland, as well as in the audience many of my digital Tamil penpals across the world, whom I've never met in-person, converging in time and a virtual space, brought together by art. As displaced people whose families and communities have had to fracture and disperse across the world, events like this are a balm for our wounds... not just a balm, we are creating.. new skin? Especially for the Illankai & Eelam Tamil communities - who haven't had an infrastructure of filmmaking due to war and genocide, it was beyond exciting for me to see the fruition of a re(new)ed artistic culture. For those who don't have the ability to speak up about their truths, seeing their art share space in this curation filled me with hope that inclusivity for all is indeed facilitated through mindful artistic organization.. and perhaps most of all, i was just wow-ed by how much fucking talent there is out there in independent Tamil filmmakers... <3

😌❤️‍🔥heartwork roundup part 2! featuring some fresh work done this week and throwbacks! All examples of full colour work on brown skin - no filters, no camera tricks, just bright lighting! Sometimes it’s a gamble and spicy reactions or full ink rejections can occur, which have more to do with cortisol levels, aftercare, and your own specific individual biochemistry than melanin (but obviously we deal w a lot of things so like chicken or egg?!) but when it works out, that’s nice! I myself have had reactions to certain ink types that were about the formula rather than the ink colour or my melanin, but healing is always possible, if not touching up! It’s case-by-case and I continue to learn as I go, being that there’s just so much ignorance and industrial negligence to sift thru, but I gotchu!!!! All colour work I offer is specifically designed to show on black and brown skin, because i’m a deep-toned brown kin so it is a natural priority and consideration! Shoutout to everyone who continues to trust the effort, in any way, it means a lot to me and I will continue to do my best for all of us, learning from each of you.
