After beating cancer 26 years ago, just after her fourth child was born, Coach Jackie Neary knows a thing or two about resilience and grit 💪

The crazy thing is, I didn’t even know this part of Jackie’s story before I asked her this question, but I’m so glad I did.

➡️ Part of why I love asking coaches questions like this is because so much of how we coach comes from what we’ve lived through ourselves. We all go through things that shape us, and as coaches, we often end up pulling from those experiences to help teach and prepare the next generation.

🔹 Jackie spent 28 years building Cabrini Women’s Lacrosse into one of the most successful programs in Division III, winning 22 conference championships and making 21 NCAA Tournament appearances. She is a Hall of Fame coach and former Temple national champion.

Shortly after Jackie was diagnosed with cancer, and while undergoing chemotherapy, she continued coaching and showing up for her players and family. She hardly missed a practice or game and even arranged treatments around her coaching responsibilities.

She also talks about growing up in a blue-collar family and learning early what it meant to work hard.

➡️ Jackie has described Cabrini as the place where she raised her children, beat cancer and spent nearly three decades of her life. So when Cabrini closed its doors in 2024, it meant losing a place tied to so many chapters of her life. As hard as that was, she was determined to keep doing what she loved — coaching, teaching and leading the next generation.

🔆 Today, Jackie is the Head Women’s Lacrosse Coach at Neumann University, where she’s already making an impact. In her first season they advanced to the conference championship game for the first time since 2016.

I am so grateful for the opportunity to sit down with Jackie and talk about one of the ingredients that has helped shape her life and career: RESILIENCE + GRIT.

Her perspective is one I think every athlete, coach, and every person, can learn something from. 🥍❤️
