Domestication forced us to simplify natures complexity

We replaced diverse, place-based food systems with fields, fences, monocultures and inputs called development.

Nature doesn’t farm in rows rather builds relationships through soil, fungi, insects, animals, plants and people participating in cycles that feed one another.

My idea of progress is remembering how to participate in it.

My horses grew up #traveling #nomadic alongside my previous string of #horses until they became my string of horses. Takawaakusn and Tsinduahai are Cayuse ponies rounded up off the Umatilla reservation in 2014. They’re both 12 years old now and we are all in our prime with many more years of saddle tramping left

With free tickets to under the big sky we decided to spend our time in the mountains. Visiting a friend who shown me all the best places and we found a lot of cool things. Some familiar and some new to me. I was mostly happy to see Benjamin Tod and Rattlesnake Milk. After that I was good… #underthebigsky #montana #flathead

I’ve been a little MIA lately, but for a good reason.

As I work to restore my own land, I’ve been traveling to places that still remember what thriving looks like. Cedar trees so thick and towering they stand like living monuments. Hillsides covered in Huckleberries, Thimbleberries and Raspberries with enough for birds, bears, and people alike.

The more I travel, learn about plants and see how I want to tend to my land, the more I realize restoration isn’t about creating something new. It’s about learning from the places that never forgot, and bringing those lessons home. #landrestoration #nature #vanlife #alternativeliving #nativeplants
