A L Y S S A

Who knew that 10 years ago at our first shoot together, I would be doing your wedding hair!

Ironically also a curled half-up style with a tasseled front…

Was a privilege to be behind the scenes on this life-changing moment of yours.

The last 24 hours in a minute. 💍Somewhere between sharing a classroom at 10 and watching her get married, we grew up. 🤍
The most beautiful bride. ♥️

It seems these days as wedding photographers we have forgotten , we are actually there because two people love each other , Yes love, that verb we all forgot existed in our industry .

We didn't become wedding photographers to just have you be static and stare at our cameras , but it appears that's the gold standard now as a good "wedding photograph ", we are not hating, obviously one or two “classic images “ are perfectly normal, but were is the evidence these two humans love each other ? We want you to look back and remember how much you loved each other! Not how trendy you looked emotional wedding portraits of a couple at boschendal wedding

A glance at the McKellars’ final album in no particular order, with the thoughts that shaped the photographs.

Looking for alternative angles during a ceremony has become a non-negotiable for me, and I almost always end up behind floral installations. I noticed (and loved) the way En’s veil peeked through the florals.

A frame I always work for - the moment the bride’s loved ones see her as a bride for the first time. How small they are in this frame translates the magnitude of this moment so, so well.

Harsh mid day sunlight on 35mm film develops beautifully. We strolled through nature’s best the day before the wedding as En and Caleb soaked up the sun.

A moment I knew was destined for film - a timeless bridal portrait. I love when I catch a bride looking down at her dress, almost as though she’s taking in that she’s a bride. At last.

Ceremonies are a dance between digital and film, film mostly wins when it comes to the final album.

First moments as newlyweds with their witnesses and the groom’s mom (that officiated the ceremony) reaching for the marriage certificate.

The candles burning orange in the blue shadows pulled me in to this one.

Two people immersed in adoration for one another. There’s no world in which this frame wouldn’t have been special to them.

A first dance moment. You don’t see it here but the song’s lyrics was projected on the draping as they spun and spun and spun. And the guests cried. Again, no world where this wouldn’t be special.

Just a man that loves his red.

Post dinner scenes.

Our Nikkah was a special one… I’m a little biased of course but it was a different one in a way that honestly shouldn’t be. Women occupied the mosque, taking their rightful equal role in our lives. I sat up front, an equal part in our Nikkah which was not only important to me and my family but to my husband’s family too. Knowing that our families both saw this as incredibly important was truly symbolic of what I pray our marriage will be InshaAllah. One of shared responsibility, and companionship.

I gave the honour of giving me away to my father who I know has looked forward to this moment his whole life. Truthfully both my parents have. They’ve held me in heartbreak, and wiped away my tears. Raised me to be everything I am and am not. This moment was more theirs than mine. They saw my first smile and the smile that Tanwir put on my face, the laughter echoing through the house when he came over. They have prayed over this marriage long before we did. All four of our parents have.

So this nikkah and marriage was not by chance, it was not all our doing. It was years in the making. Divinely planned first of course, willed into existence by everyone we love, and fell so beautifully into place with us.

May it be always filled with mercy, love and tranquility InshaAllah.
