This is the egg sac of a Pirate spider (Mimetus puritanus). Pirate spiders pluck the web of other spiders which tricks them into thinking there is prey. Then the pirate spider ambushes the spider and eats it (hence their other nickname the cannibal spider). “Strength of Tenderness” October 2026 Grand Teton National Park There is an endearing moment when the vulnerability of tenderness shows in those of giant strength and power. I see it in us humans, especially the men on our lives. You know the ones…powerful, commanding, unwavering of their resilience. Sometimes you almost see the metaphorical guard being shed for a moment in time. It’s as if you can see the through the cracks of the armor as to what is inside. That in itself is commanding, don’t you think? I saw this very thing one evening while photographing Hoback, a legend himself. This innocent and sweet calf had imprinted on the giant of a bull moose. He followed his every move and cautiously curated a space between the two of them. It was almost as if the little calf knew he was in uncharted territory. He even tried to nurse on Hoback a few times. I was surprised how at how patient he was with the little guy. You should have heard the friends I was with-especially us gals. A plethora of comments and sounds applauding the sweet interaction between the two of them. We were in one of those moments of seeing the strength of vulnerability in the wild. It made me a little teary-I’m such a sap. I really love the leaf on Hoback’s neck that seemed especially highlighted in the setting sun. I’m not sure what the story is here with the two of them. A cow was hanging out with him as well, but she was very defiant in not interacting with the baby. There were a few ideas going around, but we will never ultimately know. Who knows, this little guy might be a legend in the making himself. #moose #nikon #wildlifephotography

This was the show I couldn’t stop watching. A tiny bananaquit, working among the branches in Jamaica. Pulling a strand, shifting position, reaching for another. The longer I watched, the more I wanted to understand how all those little movements would eventually become a nest. Bananaquits build rounded nests with a roof and a small entrance in the side, using grasses, leaves, and other plant fibers. Looking at these beginnings, it’s remarkable to imagine the enclosed structure they can become. Look closely as you swipe. Follow the strands, the reach of that little bill, and the feet holding firmly to the branch while the work continues. I wanted to stay and photograph the whole process. But my flight home was only hours away, and this little architect was working on its own schedule.
