Last night… I’m still taking it in.
What a full, beautiful room… and what a feeling to share that music with you all.
To my dear friends who were there — I felt you.
To those who couldn’t make it — I felt you too.
And yes — for those who know what was happening in Vancouver at Horseshoe Bay yesterday…it was complete ferry chaos. Everything shut down for hours.
There was a real moment where I didn’t think I was going to make my own birthday show.
But somehow — through a wild chain of events, a few incredible humans (especially Geoff Degner and @calliwag_ ) and a lot of determination — Buff and I arrived right on time.
And then… it just flowed.
From the first note, I felt so connected —to my incredible band - I truly couldn’t have done it without you: @tarntzen60 ,Tom K, Conrad, and @buff_allen and to the supercharged room, so beautifully welcomed by the incomparable @wongski
My voice felt strong, grounded… alive in a way that meant everything to me.
Thank you to everyone who showed up, who helped me get there, to my wonderful guest singers — @darleneecooper, @crema_laura, and @juhli.conlinn — and to @frankiesjazz for giving us such a beautiful space to bring it all to life.
After a long road back…to stand there and do what I love, the way I love to do it…
That was a moment I won’t forget.
With so much love 💛
Christie #imback #gratefulheart #livejazzvancouver#jazzvocalist#livemusic

Some great words & people to be found at @wordvancouver #2025 this weekend.

Long overdue to meet host @garyjones680 who corralled @wongski and I into some sense on our books of venues as #Vancouver music!

…And honoured to moderate a discussion with @scottalexanderhoward & @jensookfonglee about their new books

Thanks to everyone at #WordVancouver as well as the volunteers and especially @nishbonnie and her team who put such bard work into the event. Few events spotlight local writers of all genres and types this well. #wordvancouver2025 #wordvancouver #LiveAtTheCommodore #theothervalleybook #TheHungerWePassDown #journeystothebandstand @arsenalpulp

Cheers to all the writers, musos, artists, booksellers, vendors, volunteers, and people who came out to @wordvancouver yesterday 🤯 Loved catching up with @tundrawizard Cole Pauls and his cool books & stickers; @kedrick.james.52 (with his 'It's Not Hoarding If It's Vinyl' 😁 t-shirt) & @ernesto.penna & @derekgladwin of @seethruzoo who did a great set. (And lovely to chat #cabaretvoltaire and #throbbinggristle after)

+ Fun times with @death_rides_a_unicorn_events @seanmcgarragle @hollyflauto @rc_weslowski @byduncanshields & Co doing the 17 Syllable Slam. (Debuted: my eyes are closed / at the poetry reading / doesn't mean I'm asleep ... but I could be)

Also loved the Poetry Bus, Panel on Pitching, and Chris Wong @wongski telling the story of Charles Mingus beating a @bclions_official with a toilet plunger 🪠 for interrupting his flow (from his Journeys To The Bandstand book) and @thataaronchapman talking about biker bouncers throwing out punters from his Live @ the Commodore book - 'Air Commodore' down the front carpeted stairs and 'Second Class' down the wooden stairs out back 😁

Massive thanks 🙏 to our board (and sponsors) for making this happen, especially our fearless leader @nishbonnie

Flashback to a year ago when I had the privilege of meeting long time IG friend @wongski

Chris was visiting from the west coast of Canada and I gave him a whirlwind tour of some favourite haunts in Toronto.

Chris is a talented author and wrote Journeys to the Bandstand. There’s a link in his bio if you’d like to know more.
