Our Grady boy took his last walk a few nights ago. To say our hearts are heavy doesn’t begin to cover it. šŸ’”

We knew this day would come. Little by little, we had already started losing pieces of you.

Your wet nose and warm pants at my bed every morning. Seeing you in the bay window when we came home, then jumping down to meet us at the door. Just so you know… we never got tired of seeing you there.

You always found us in the house, making sure you weren’t too far away. Your chin resting on the bay window. Your morning biscuit. The sound of a cheese wrapper. Knowing my tennis shoes meant a walk. And ā€œyour roomā€ outside the laundry room where you could still keep an eye on us during dinner.

There are dogs… and then there are the ones who become part of your soul. Grady was our soul dog.

Your head hugs. Your eye squints. Your ā€œgolden glitterā€ everywhere. Your nose prints on the windows I’m not quite ready to wash away.

Seeing you in the work trucks with Wyatt and the boys. Running around while they worked. The excitement when your ā€œkidsā€ came home after being away far too long.

Ten years ago, someone was giving away a Golden Retriever. We had no idea what we were really being given.

We didn’t know how much joy you would bring us. How much Wyatt would need you throughout his cancer journey. Or how much we would need you when he was gone.

I’ll never forget you lying beside his bed after he passed, refusing to leave. You stayed there with him. And then you stayed there for all of us too.

You walked beside us through loss, grief, change, healing and beautiful ordinary days in between. You didn’t need to understand any of it. You just stayed close.

Dogs have a way of carrying pieces of our hearts when they’re too heavy for us to carry ourselves. Grady carried more of ours than we ever realized.

You asked for nothing and gave us everything. You were woven into our family, our memories, our hardest days and some of our very best ones.

Thank you for loving Wyatt.
Thank you for loving our kids.
Thank you for loving me.
And thank you for staying close when we needed you most.

We’re going to miss you, Grady boy. What I wouldnļæ½
