Something special for my love’s birthday. A @gregwood_art painting and a drop of whiskey. A perfect pairing I reckon. Happy birthday @roberto__maniscalco 😘

Today is the final day of ‘Queer Economies’ at @busprojects and Abbotsford Convent! To celebrate and thank all of the phenomenal individuals and organisations who have culminated to be part of this project—@abbra_czyk and I are throwing a gifting party from 12–4pm today at St Helier’s Street Gallery, Abbotsford Convent! We have some fab programs lined up, including an in-conversation between Sally Gray and Angela Bailey about McDiarmid’s legacy, a performance by @jimmynuttall and a gift giving ceremony—where gifts that have been contributed will be given to the people they’ve been made for! Please come along, should be a lovely day, and we have a bar tab! 🥳👯‍♀️💫🌈🔥🍡🥂xx

‘Queer Economies’ is a multi-site curatorial project presented in partnership with @midsummafestival in association with @busprojects, Abbotsford Convent and @CCP_australia with support from @perimeterbooks and the David McDiarmid Estate.
-
Queer Economies takes its cue from Perimeter Editions’ 2014 publication Gifts from David McDiarmid—an archive of handmade artworks that queer artist and activist David McDiarmid gifted to friends and loved ones during his lifetime. Following in McDiarmid’s generous logic, Queer Economiesexplores the non-monetary, in-kind economies that emerge within LGBTQIA+ communities, in order to foster resilience, love and connection. Seeking to explore the potentials and possibilities of a ‘queer economy’, this project engages with contemporary artists to critically and subjectively consider: What does a ‘queer economy’ look like, and how might its values of exchange be circulated, commoned or coacted?
-
Curated by Abbra Kotlarczyck and Made Spencer-Castle, and featuring across the project artists Tony Albert, Frances Barrett, Archie Barry, Nathan Beard, Debris Facility Pty Ltd, Briony Galligan, Rafaella McDonald, Callum McGrath, Claudia Nicholson, Spiros Panigirakis, Nikos Pantazopoulos, Parallel Park (Holly Bates and Tayla Jay Haggarty), Francis E. Parker, Charlie Sofo, Amy Spiers, Athena Thebus, Peter Waples-Crowe and Behn Woods.
