POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
I’ve been avoiding this post for weeks because I am still in disbelief! My friend who became a family member since 2009 is gone he was the core of my stream he actually was the first person to watch me stream from the Ustream.tv days when I was working with them to fix the audio so we could all stream with the proper audio feed and Woody watched me from day one going thru all the technical issues. This was tail end of MySpace era when I only had 5ppl watching me everyday and one of them was Woody. Woody helped build awareness for my program and also played a role in programming music. When ustream.tv dissolved for DJing because of copyright laws Woody and I stay in touch and he supported pretty much everything I was doing and making it his business to show up. He was always fun to be around and super smart the conversation he and I would have were so thought provoking that he was very inspiring, and we were so like minded but what impressed me is how young he was with all this knowledge. I actually felt like I had a young cat around that I can learn from and he was a stickler for “fact checking “. He would be teaching the entire chat room while I played music he would have so much levity to every conversation that we started calling him “WOODYPEDIA”. He was literally the young OG of the chat room that everyone looked to if there was some information that was uncertain or partial and Woody would immediately go down what I called the “RABBIT HOLE” to find the answers. I call my stream The Dugout which is name after a place we used to throw parties at in Amityville but I modeled the show behind the Television sitcom “Cheers” so if the Dugout Is Cheers Woody was “Norm” the second he popped in the chat we all are screaming his name I would definitely stop whatever I was saying or playing just to scream out “WOOOODY!”Then I would say “Cha,Cha,Cha” because that’s what his smile resembled to me. This young man was really special he impacted so many lives by just being extremely positive and a real genuine person and out of all the people I lost in the past few years this one is really upsetting because his life was snatched. @i_am_tinamaso

At the top of this week, I learned of the passing of my friend Erik, affectionately known as Woody Black throughout the many hip-hop and music related communities he was a part of. He was such a kind-hearted and sweet soul who loved music, especially hip-hop in its purist forms.

I use this outlet to share music I love, and fortunately Woody and I loved the same tunes. I put this playlist together to honor his love of the art of music, hip-hop, beats, sampling, guitars, lyricism, and the like. I also wanted to share his deep love for connecting with artists to thank them for the impact their music had on him.

De La Soul meant so much to Woody, and it both saddens and brings me joy to dedicate “Cabin In The Sky” to our friend @woodypedia today. This album shook me to my core when it was released last year. It is an incredibly vulnerable way to share the journey through grief, and I thought it was a beautiful homage to Dave (RIP DAVE 🤍). I love this album so much, and was blown away the first time I heard it. Having lost my mother 11 years ago, I thought this album was such a raw and honest depiction of the ups and downs of grief, remembering love when it is no longer represented by a physical being, and having to hold on to cherished memories like the air you breathe. It’s a serendipitous wink from the universe, I suppose, that Woody loved this joint like we all did.

If I can’t say anything else, I want to implore you all to be kind to one another. Love sincerely, and tell the people you care about, what they mean to you. My heart shatters often when I think of all the pain we experience cyclically. The only way I’ve found to counteract that inevitable experience is to up the love to the millionth degree. Friends, I love you all near and far. Thank you for letting me be in your lives.

Woody, I am sincerely so sorry. We love you and are so thankful for your light. Even in your last moments, you were offering kindness and I am both heartbroken and inspired by that. Thank you for being an incredible human.
