In 2021 I was in the back of a production van on the way to set with DoP Morgan Schmidt and I heard him on the phone talking about filming a Burning Man documentary and I said “Hey, if you ever need anyone for that doc…I’ve always wanted to go”. A year later I get a text “Want to go to work that Burning Man documentary for 16 days? But you have to leave tonight”.

I was at the gym, I threw the dumbbells at the wall and ran out the door. I get a call from @benjilanpher and he hears something and asks “Where are you?” “Uhhh, a thrift store” “You’re at a thrift store and not a camera store?” “Yeah? 😬” “You’ll fit in perfect.” Luckily @samskalbeck was there to fill in any wardrobe gaps I had.

Huge thanks to @jilliansarettel for helping me compile a lot of these BTS photos from the burn and @kennyrodz for the NYC premiere event photos

Forever grateful to the crew I met on this job, the amount of talent, professionalism and overall just fun and good vibes on this set was immaculate. One of those jobs with a crew you truly just hope for again and again.

Participating on this project for 3 burns was truly one of the greatest gifts of my life! So proud to be included and pumped for the world to finally see the communal effort it took/takes to capture/create the greatest temporary city on earth. Go watch Episode 1 immediately and tune in every Thursday in July. More radically self-expressed BTS of the coolest crew to come! )'( ⬇️

Screened as part of my remote press coverage for Overlook Film Festival

A woman on the fence about having kids is hunted in her home by a demonic horse-man from Filipino folklore.

The premise of this film is simple yet delivered in a way that captures your imagination in the deepest, darkest way possible. Not being familiar with Filipino culture, this was my first encounter with the Tikbalang demon, and it certainly won’t be soon forgotten!

I loved the way the story unfolded, situating us in an everyday surrounding then allowing a supernatural entity to seep its way in. The Tikbalang was played so creepily by Taylor Bradley; their movements alone were unnerving and enough to have me on edge. Teamed with the wonderful costume design, special makeup effects, and foley work that made my skin crawl, I believe we truly have a terrifying new folklore creature in horror and need to see more.

The supernatural elements played against the theme of women’s body autonomy and familial pressures so wonderfully. Kristine Gerolaga's leading performance was mesmerising; you could feel their grief and sadness radiate through the screen as their free will was consumed. Ina Dahilig played the mother from hell role so perfectly; whilst I could understand the headspace that character resided in, their actions made it impossible to empathise.

Breeder is a polished horror short which delivers a quick fix of folklore horror with just enough gross out moments to keep the blood thirstiest of us satiated. Breeder is currently on the film festival circuit. Be sure to drop the tagged accounts a follow to find a screening near you!
