Since 2022(!), I've been working on a very special acquisition & am excited to finally share news that a significant portion of the illustrator Jason Polan's collection has landed with The Henry Ford. Back in 2022, we were offered a donation of a complete lineage of Viewmasters. Cool enough on its own, but what really excited me was *who they belonged to* - Jason Polan! Which then unfurled into: "Yes!... but is there anything else?!" I've been a fan of Jason's work within the zine scene for ages, and always happy to spot his illustrations in cookbooks & publications. While I never had the chance to meet him, I was sad to read about his passing from cancer at the age of 37 in 2020. I'm honored to now be a steward of his legacy as a curator at THF. I've spent a lot of time with Jason's incredible mom, Jane, and have been so grateful to connect with his circle of friends, which was massive. They've all been amazing and supportive and essential in this work as they've shared memories of Jason. This was a collection worth every ounce of effort in its pursuit. There is a lot more to come, including a retrospective style exhibit in 2028. Here are some favorites so far! And check the usual spot for further announcement deets! #jasonpolan

@peafranks is one of those guys prevalent and prolific enough to be ever present but impossible to define, so we asked him to do it for us, and this is what he had to say.

As per describing what I do; I guess you could call me a visual artist, I skate sometimes, I’m a member of the Rassvet design/art department, I’ve been assisting Kevin and the team with creative contributions at Emerica, literary visitor when people need words for things - I’m whatever you need me to be. At my core I’m a recovering alcoholic, self hating, Irish Catholic from outside of Chicago just trying to behave - trying to be a good person.

The music that he has selected reveals two things about him. One, his taste in music is good and lives mostly in the 1970s. Second, as does his taste in film. Two for one. That’s a good deal. Link in bio.
