A little piece of Cuba lives in me.

I’m first-generation Cuban ,born here, but raised with the stories, traditions, music, food, and love of a country my parents left behind so that I could have more opportunities.

Sometimes I think about the courage it took to leave everything familiar behind and start over in another country. Their sacrifice became my opportunity, and I will never take that for granted.

Being Cuban is something I’m incredibly proud of. But it’s also complicated. There’s a deep sadness in watching the country your family comes from struggle, while still carrying so much love for the people and the place itself.

“Homeland and Life.”

These words became a powerful expression of the hope many Cubans have for a better future. Cuba is struggling deeply, politically, economically, and in the everyday lives of its people. Families are facing food and medicine shortages, long power outages, and uncertainty about what tomorrow will look like. There is so much more happening in Cuba than what we often see from the outside.

So if you see this, I hope you’ll take a moment to learn about what is happening in Cuba and, most importantly, pray for the Cuban people. Pray for provision, freedom, peace, and hope for a country that means so much to so many.

So this month, I’m not just celebrating where I come from. I’m remembering where my family came from, honoring what they sacrificed, and proudly carrying Cuba wherever I go.
