Different color analysis systems may approach the process differently, but the goal is always the same:

To find the colors that make you look your most harmonious, polished, and confident. ✨

The colors that support your makeup.
The colors that make your outfits feel stylish.
The colors that make your accessories, hair, and entire image come together beautifully. 🤌🏻

Let’s talk about the process I use.

In the color analysis system I work with, originally developed by the International Image Institute, I rely on three foundational color dimensions:

✨ undertone
✨ intensity and contrast
✨ value and depth

These dimensions guide the three main steps I follow during every analysis.

Step 1: Undertone

We begin by identifying whether you lean cool or warm.

This is the foundation. I would never jump into brightness, softness, depth, or contrast before understanding undertone first.

Step 2: Home Season

Your undertone direction leads us into your Home Season.

Cool home seasons:
• Winter
• Summer

Warm home seasons:
• True Spring
• True Autumn

At this stage, we begin looking deeper into value, depth, intensity, and overall color harmony.

Step 3: Sub-Season

This is where the most refined nuances appear.

Sub-seasons bring us into more precise color directions, including neutral undertones, vibrancy, softness, depth, and the exact shades that will become your final palette.

Each Home Season has three sub-seasons, and each one is its own complete palette.

This step matters because the final palette is what guides your makeup, wardrobe, hair direction, accessories, and styling choices for life.

How I do my analysis is very much my own methodology, developed through 13+ years of experience, thousands of clients, and working with many international professionals.

But one thing never changes:

Draping is always the foundation.

Step by step, the process becomes clearer until we reach the palette that truly supports you.

Doing color analysis for @working_chix was an absolute blast ✨🤍

We had such a great time, and it was a wonderful opportunity to introduce one of the most important concepts in color analysis: undertone.

Color analysis is one of the most powerful tools in personal style.

When you know your best colors, getting dressed becomes easier, shopping becomes more intentional, makeup becomes more harmonious, and your entire image feels more polished and put together.

Instead of guessing, you know exactly which colors support your natural beauty and which ones do not. 🤌🏻

And every color analysis begins with one foundational step: undertone.

Undertone is the natural temperature that sits beneath your skin.

It can be:
🤍 Cool
🤍 Warm
🤍 Neutral

And contrary to what many people think, undertone is not determined by whether your skin looks pink, golden, tan, fair, or dark.

This is why so many people struggle to identify it on their own. 👀

Why does undertone matter?

Because it influences:
✨ your best clothing colors
✨ makeup shades
✨ hair color direction
✨ jewelry
✨ overall harmony

When your colors support your undertone, your complexion appears brighter, your features become more defined, and everything starts working together beautifully.

And this is only the first step.

A complete color analysis also determines your Home Season and Sub-Season to find the palette that suits you best.

What do you think Anna’s undertone is?
Cool, warm, or neutral? 👀
