🐢 A Legacy of Resilience | The Jonathan-Inspired Tortoise — YaWeDo

Inspired by Jonathan, the legendary giant tortoise of Saint Helena, this became one of the most fascinating sculptures for our team.

As we researched Jonathan, we were captivated by his extraordinary longevity, his distinctive long neck, and the resilience of an animal that has endured across generations. Estimated to have been born around 1832, Jonathan represents a remarkable connection to the past and a living testament to endurance.

What made this sculpture particularly meaningful was the parallel we discovered between the tortoise and the material we work with. Just as Jonathan has endured through the ages, scrap metal carries its own story of resilience — capable of being transformed, repurposed and given a new lease on life.

At YaWeDo, these connections between nature, material and meaning are at the heart of our approach to Waste to Art and Circular Design.

Inspired by a survivor of centuries. Crafted from materials given a second life.

And the little animals continue to charm us!

Our Fancy Dress Competition was filled with little tigers, majestic lions, graceful zebras, dedicated forest officers, caring veterinarians, beautiful trees, colourful flowers.... and so much more! 🐯🦁🦓🌳🌸

Their tiny actions, adorable expressions and sweet little talks about their characters left us completely mesmerised. Each child brought their imagination to life, filling the day with innocence, confidence and joy.

Every little costume carried a beautiful message...and every little voice reminded us that the love for wildlife can begin at any age.

This World Animal Day, let’s remember that every species has a place, a purpose, and a story worth protecting.
Animals deserve kindness. They deserve peace. They deserve to exist without fear.

What we teach our children today is the world they will inherit tomorrow. So let’s make sure the story playing on their screen is not one of loss, but one of coexistence, compassion, and hope.

Because every species matters. Every life matters. And protecting them means protecting our own future. 🐘🐅🦋🌿

This owl can hear prey hiding UNDER the snow. 🦉❄️

The Great Gray Owl has an enormous facial disc that helps collect sound, while its unusual ear placement helps it pinpoint exactly where its prey is hiding.

Then it dives straight into the snow to catch it. 😱

Scientific name: Strix nebulosa

🌎 HELLOOOO PARADISE

What if we have been looking for heaven in the wrong direction?

For centuries, humans have stared into the universe asking whether somewhere out there exists a planet capable of holding life.

A world with liquid water.
Oxygen.
Forests.
Oceans.
Rain.
Fruit.
Flowers.
Birds in the sky.
Whales beneath the surface.
Tiny turtles making their first journey toward the sea.

But what if the extraordinary planet we keep searching for is the one beneath our feet?

Imagine, just for a moment, that every living creature has been travelling through the universe searching for one impossible thing:

a safe place to be alive.

The bird searching for a sky.
The whale searching for an ocean.
The bee searching for flowers.
The turtle searching for a beach.
And humans searching for somewhere to call home.

Then, somewhere in the darkness of space, appears a small blue planet.

Warm enough.
Wet enough.
Protected enough.
Alive enough.

Earth.

Perhaps paradise was never meant to be somewhere we go after this life.

Perhaps paradise is the astonishing accident we are living inside right now.

And if that is true, then this little turtle is not simply an animal crossing our beach.

It is another passenger on the same beautiful spaceship we are all travelling on together. 🐢🌍✨

No first class.
No economy.
No other destination currently waiting for us.

Just one extraordinary planet carrying millions of different lives through the darkness.

Maybe the greatest spiritual lesson is not learning how to reach heaven.

Maybe it is finally realizing that we arrived here already.

And perhaps our only responsibility is to leave paradise as beautiful for the next passenger as it was when we found it.

Hello, little one.
Welcome to Earth with your 79 bros and Sis.
Welcome to paradise. 🌊🐢🤍

Some experiences can’t be captured by a photo alone. Seeing these beautiful animals thriving, learning their stories, and witnessing conservation in action made this one of the most meaningful days of our Kenya adventure. 🦏❤️

Every animal deserves a future.

Some people chase success.

He chases moments that may last only a few seconds. 🐾📸

Wildlife photography isn’t just about having a good camera.
It’s about patience, silence, timing—and knowing when to wait.

Because in the wild, you don’t control the subject.
You simply wait for the story to unfold.

And sometimes, the best shot is the one you almost gave up waiting for.

Would you have the patience to wait hours for one perfect frame? 👀
