Fall is here! And there’s no better or cozier spot to cheer for Taylor’s husband than our Hickory family room 🍂🍁🍃

Texture and craft carry this kids’ bath, not bright color. 🪞 The oak bobbin mirrors were handcrafted in the UK by Alfred Newall, and their scalloped frames add warmth and whimsy.

The opal sconces, from a female-owned lighting company in South Carolina, soften the light for gentle mornings and bedtimes. Simple cabinetry lets the handmade details lead. 🤍

We fell for this tile before we had made a single other decision, and then designed the rest of the bathroom around it.

This room replaced the bathroom we pulled out of the dining room, so it now serves the whole main level from a little hall off the kitchen. A large shower with a ledge, a vanity with real storage, and lighting that works for the person actually standing at the mirror.

The leaf mural carries the green running through the rest of the house. The black and white hex on the floor keeps the whole thing from tipping over into theme.

Every room in this home is its own piece of art. This one just happens to be the one you find by accident.

At some point in this house’s life, an evil-doer put a bathroom in the dining room.

Half the usable square footage, gone. What was left worked as a gallery you passed through on the way somewhere else, not a room anybody stayed in.

We gave that bathroom a proper home off the kitchen hall and gave the dining room its space back. It seats eight now, and it has turned into the room everyone ends up in.

The floral mural is the loudest thing in this house and it has earned the right to be. Custom paneling and trim frame it. We also ran a picture rail a few inches below the crown molding, partly for the detail and partly so art can hang without anyone putting a nail through that wallpaper.

French doors open to the patio, so the light and the cross breeze do plenty of work in here too.

Oof, the amount of thought that goes into just one space. It might look simple, but in this laundry room alone, we had to figure out:

Where should the ironing board be stored?
How much counter space does folding area really need?
And so many more.

I fell in love with this wallpaper and honestly, that was pretty much it 😂 I knew I wanted to use it and build the whole powder bath around it.

It’s fun, floral, a little unexpected, and has just enough personality to make this tiny room feel really special. I feel like powder rooms are the perfect place to take a little design risk 🌸

Since losing my husband a few months ago, I’ve been figuring out what life looks like now that it’s just the two of us. Me and Sterling. 🤍

There’s so much about our circumstance that I never wanted and would give anything to change. But I’m also learning to notice the sweetness tucked into this new rhythm of ours.

Slower mornings. Nowhere we need to rush off to. Letting him “help” even when it takes three times as long. A little more time to just be together.

I’m still figuring out what comes next for us. But for now, mornings with my personal barista are pretty sweet. ☕️
